Personal Review: BOMz Racing Cold Air Inakte + K&N Filter (eBay)
UPDATED!!! Personal Review: BOMz Racing Cold Air Inakte + K&N Filter (eBay)
[pix updated: 4-13:2003]
so i finally got my digital camera and i took couple pix of the intake and an additional mpeg clip. enjoy =)

**i added an extra hose to protect the pipe, jus in case it bounce around too much**
intake clip >> http://www.angelfire.com/zine2/happyricefob/bomzcai.MPG
[Installation]
My friend and I installed the CAI over the weekend without any instructions. Nissan made the stock intake system with a bunch of various rams and holes etc, but taking the stock intake system out was cake! (10 minutes job) The process of cutting the stock metal frame took us a while because we didn't want to damage any unecessary stock parts. After our articulous work (sort of), we realized there was already a big space provided just for the K&N filter to sit in. Lastly, we connected the PCV valves and intake arm with the provided hoses, jack up the car, and pop the K&N filter from underdeath. It was a 1 hour job with some music and chatter.
[Performance]
The rpm shifts A LOT more smoother than stock, or even my previous popcharger setup. I feel a decent gain from 2,500 rpm - 5,500 rpm in every gear (especially 2nd). Also the engine felt it wants to be pushed. The hoses were very tight so there's no extra air will leak from the intake pipe. The provided K&N filter is a bit small but aggressively aborbing every cold air as possible.
[Sound]
BOMz CAI sounds more like "blaaaaaheeeeeaaaah!" and popcharger sounds more "broooommmmm!"
I can also hear "shh....shh,.." sound from the CAI, it's a very neat sound =) and at WOT it sounds hella loud!
[Vision]
Since I polished my engine black and blue, the blue hoses and silver intake pipe matches with my engine bay really well. And it looks more spacious compare to the stock air system.
[Conclusion]
This product defintely is worth $80. It is made out of metal but not some cheap plastic piping. The K&N filter was pre-oiled and everything is ready to go. I feel the gains in performance as well as the sound I expect to hear from the CAI system. Overall it's a great product, worth every penny!

One larger K&N filter that fit the 3" pipe on these ebay (Bomz) intakes is part number...
RE-0930
It has a 6" diameter base (end with the hole), it's 6" long, and the other end is 4-5/8" in diameter.
It is in stock, and available from Summit for $38.69 1-800-230-3030
There is also a pre-cleaner available for this filter. This is a 'sock' that fits over the filter to catch the bigger stuff. It has elastic to hold it in place. It is part #22-8033PK but Summit does not sell it... as it's listed as a 'motorcycle' part.
I'll probably end up purchasing one of the cheapies that comes with the small, generic filter, then buy this filter from Summit.
Here is a listing of conical K&N filters, and their measurments. http://www.knfilters.com/universal/univrndtap.htm
Good Luck!

I want to get one of these, was finding the place to cut in the fenderwell hard and was cutting hard? What did you use to cut through it and are you scared it is going to rust? Haha, so many questions.

nice
hey love the post ! pics are cool and the clip was really awesome, i tripped out on your temp gauge ..ouch..bet you could fry an egg somewhere around there ... it was nice to hear the cai, it sounded very tame compared to my jwt pop ... do you have any clips of any runs down the road ... i would like to hear some .. post a link to any web pages you have also with any clips i would like to check them out ...great mod though , hows the power ?
Here are some directions on how to install the Price Racing unit... which is pretty much the same thing as the Bomz. However, the Bomz does not come with the template used here. But, it's probably not really needed, as the piping can be installed first, and the location of the hole can then be 'eyeballed'. note... The page below is NOT mine. The fellow at the site gets the credit.

I purchased mine from ebay, and it looks just like this one. It seems like a nice setup with powder coated 3" aluminum tubing. It's only drawbacks are the plastic MAF adapter and generic filter... but the piping is worth the $50. Hey, if you don't want to use the cold air part, it can be left off and you'll have a hybrid intake. The metal sleeves for the connectors are cool too.

I made my own MAF adapter out of a piece of 3/16" steel and a short piece of 3" exhaust tubing using a welder, grinder and drill. I also plan to purchase a K&N filter #RE-0930 that measures 6" wide at the mounting flange, is 6" long, and is 4-5/8" in diameter at the end. I'll also be using a pre-cleaner to shield the filter from road debris and keep the bigger stuff out of it. It's part #22-8033PK
The filter costs $39.26 and the pre-cleaner is $15.99 at http://www.4filters.com They charge only $5 shipping on any order.

with a 4-5/8" opening on the end , will it fit all CAI , i taught the opening on the end was 3" on CAI , and i taught the part # was re280
i recently bought a k @n filter part # ru 3570 and it didnt fit over the end, it seemed too small or tight
i was just about to try again and buy another filter the re280 but which part # is the right one , will either one fit or is the re 0930 the right one

please review!
If you're intalling this CAI in a 99 cali spec you'll have a vacuum canister that's in the way of the lower intake pipe. You'll have to relocate the canister as I had to do no biggy. And that plastic adaptor is kinda weak
but you can't expect too much for $85 right? Otherwise it's a very nice product that does it's job well. The car is SOOOOOOOOO loud outside it's not even funny. I can hear my car two blocks down the road!
Peace.

Sounds pretty good. Do you have anything else done to your car?
