Valentine 1: Anyone got it?

A few of my friends have this Valentine 1 Radar Detector, and I had some questions for the users out there. They swear by it, but I'd like some other feedback also. Is it as good as it's hyped-up to be? Is it radar detector-detector-detectored^(squared) so the cops can't tag you? Also, is it possible for the detector to work if I place the control thingy in say, the armrest box or somewhere hidden? Thanks.

Best

My cousin has one, It is the best thing you can own, It detect Radars from a longer distance than any other, so you can slow down before the cop sees you slowing down, It tells you the direction of the beam, and it doesnt go off by Buildings and other public things like banks and such, If I had the money, I would get one in a Second

Here we go again, I wish the search feature was working so I could find you the thread (a few weeks ago) on this. I just can't give my opinions or the reasons why the naysayers are wrong again.

I got it. I got it about 2yrs ago.....is very good radar/laser detector since it has longer range and also 360 detection. Definately helped me out a lot during the early days when I had purchased it. The only thing is that you need to constantly upgrade it like every 1yr to stay on top of the new technology cops are using. For instance, now a days it does not protect me against the newer technology that cops are using, so i need to upgrade. But if u compare it to anyother radar its definately #1. I hooked mine up to the cig lighter and i just have a cord running to the center of my dash where the vents are...i just plug it in there and im good to go. Don't think you're invisible with this or any other radar detectors no matter how good they are, cops like to use the instant-on feature where they wait till they see u then quickly turn it on and zap you...at that instance no radar/laser detector will protect you.

hope this helps.

I have had one for years and years. It has more than paid for itself. Plus I just love going on road trips and having my buddies radio me why I am hitting the brakes on the highway. They freak out when I tell them "I got tone" and their Passports and Bels are just sitting there quietly.

Good company to deal with as well.

Thanks for all the opinions guys, but does anyone know if it'll work if I put it in...say, the cigarette tray or something like that? Does it have to "see" the front and back, kind of hard to explain. Basically, will it work "concealed"? Thanks again.

go to their website at www.valentineone.com and look around. They have some thing that sits in front of your gauge cluster. Im not sure its the radar itself or just the readings the radar is getting. If its illegal to own one in your state I wouldnt even bother buying one if i were you.

My friend has one hardwired at the top of his windshield...cant see it but you can hear it..it is the most annoying sound ever..and he payed 350$ for everything..IMO my 70$ cobra that i got from best buy does everything that the V1 does. Plus good eyesight and knowing what to look for will help you more than radar, sometimes police dont have radar or laser on when they cruise around, they estimate your speed and if you're speeding they pull you over, and if they do see any kind of radar believe me they will not cut you any kind of slack.

My .02=waste of money

The Valentine 1 is a great detector, but I would personally reccomend a Passport Escort 8500... It has better reception than the V1.... Mine has saved my butt quite a few times...... Best advice I can give is to do some research on the top detectors.

By the way, the Passport Escort 8500 is upgradable, just like the V1 is

don't do it Juki.. i dont know about u but i've been pulled over plenty times by Fairfax PD and i speak from experience when i say they're the worst cops i've ever encountered.. and if u do decide to get it, get urself a good jar of vaseline cuz when FPD finds out u got one, they're gonna bend u over and give it to ya hard.. don't u go to Woodson.?? that's like right in the heart of Fairfax too..

I know that Passpart has the Escort 9500 which can be installed in the car and it doesnt look like there is any detector in the car....... only drawback it that it costs about 1500 bucks, not including the instalation charges.....

I owned a V1 for 4 years. Got 5 tickets in that time. Great detector but it's not magic. It got stolen 3 years ago. Not a single ticket since then.

Hmmmmm..... And I still get around just as fast but I'm not relying on what is essentially a useless expensive trinket.

Detectors have their place but I found they give me a false sense of security. Just when you're relying on the silence, some cop WILL pick you off with laser or instant-on.

Rely on the brake lights of the people in front of you. Best detector in the world. If no one is in front of you on an empty stretch of road, 90% of any cop will be running dark until you come into his sights. No detector will save you then.

Save your money for something else!

Guess you have never used a good radar detector. They work well in some situations. But, in others, they are worthless.
