Mufflers

I've always been the type of person to want a true sleeper, nothing on the outside that would show what might or is under the hood. Just a smooth ride, nice rims, little drop and maybe a body kit. But, def. no stickers, no big dumb azz wings, and no loud annoying exhaust.

Well I am still remaining true to most of that, but I do have the urge for a little more low end grunt at the muffler. Right now I have a Cattman Y, RT Cat, Stillen B/Mid Pipe and a K&N Ram Air Intake(Home Made Stillen nock off)

What are people running for mufflers that are not over whelming on the highway but still have a nice deep but not overwheming low end? Stillen any good? HKS?

Let me know your ideas and opinions.
Thanks!
Ryan

If you want Sleeper or subtle, then stay away from any aftermarket muffler. They will all draw attention. If you want the car to look stock. Stay stock. Go with a 5th gen (2k and up) mufflers.

i would swear, that while it does not look stock, my magnaflow muffler goes unnoticed by just about everyone who is not specifically looking. Even if they are, it is hard to tell that is aftermarket because the lines are sooo good and it fills the cutout perfectly.

hmm, magnaflows, i was about to get one till my friend put one on his 96 Max SE. It sounds VERY VERY mellow, almost un-noticeable at times, esp at the upper RPMs, but man, DRONE DRONE DRONE DRONE from 2K-3K. I know it will be very annoying at highway (70+mph) speeds, which sucks. It droned just as bad (though not as loud) as my Flowmasters on my last car

Did you have the same muffler as Miasma?

Miasma: how much did you pay for the muffler? and from where?

I would think that an APEXI muffler would be the quietest... but I have no real experience..... this is just from what I have read

What I did was I went to Lou's Custom Exhaust up in North Reading and got a custom 2.5" catback done there... although I have a Flowmaster muffler with a 3" tip, I'm sure they can do something so you can maintain that sleeper look... although the exhaust I have has no resonators, so the drone may become annoying at times.. I've learned to live with it for now, but I may be getting a resonator welded in this summer...

So, I'm planning on going Budget Y/B exaust system, and I was wondering for the exhaust. There have been so many people with their opinions on mufflers, I don't know where to start. Wish I could hear the different ones, but eh. So what I'm wondering (for a muffler), I'm mostly going to be shifting around 3-3.5K (depending on cost of gas ) and I don't want a drone, but an agressive growl. I don't want it to be totally quiet, but I don't want it to be loud either. I want people to know and fear me when I pass! Hah. Basically, I want the low/medium-noise level muffler without the drone. Any recomendations? Thanks, sorry its so long.

ok........with a y and b pipe, you will notice it even with a stock muffler, so make up your mind, i recommend a 5th gen preferably a 2k2 muffler

my magnaflow only drones when the car is decelerating in gear with engine braking. otherwise, just a beautiful sound.

i got mine with my budget y from budget, it was less than $100US.

I just got my new exhaust with a y, b and a 2001 muffler. I was suprised at how mellow it is and how much it growls on the low end. mid range and high end its quiet but down low it sounds like a small v8. If your looking to stay stock looking and get a nice growl get the 5th gen muffler

A Flowmasters 2 chambered (40/80 series) muffler will give you the most hollow, raw sound out of any muffler. The Magnaflow will give more of a mellowed tone similer to a Greddy.

My exhaust setup is Apex-i catback with Warpspeed Y-pipe, and it's still loud. It drones from 1.5 to 2K rpms, which makes city driving very loud. From experience, it gets VERY annoying.

With your Stillen mid-pipe, you're gonna get a lot extra sound. I say stick with stock, or you could try to find a larger diameter OE replacement muffler.

Plus muffler is a high end mod anyways, and gives 2hp with lots of sound. I say be happy your car is still relatively quiet.

trust me, Y-B pipe on a STOCK muffler sounds very mean. Its actually loud. Even with just my Y-pipe i notice the difference. If you want a louder muffler, go with the 2K-up ones.

And Flowmasters will be the LOUDEST (i had a Delta Flow 40-series) Jesus, talk about LOUD! It made my small *** 2.5V6 sounds like a mini V8 at idle, and gave it a GREAT tone outside the car, unlike any other, but it resonated SOO bad INTO the car. It was actually louder in the car, then outside. Even with a 20+inch resonator too. And it was Delta flow at that, which is supposed to reduce interior resonance! Try a 60-series Flow, id like to get one of those for my Max. But ill probably just stay with my Y and get a B

I have a stock 4th gen muffler with a 3" SS tip. a stillen mid, RT cat and a cattman Y. there is a drone much more so that stock... not unbearable. At idle there is a hint of a growl and at open throttle a def. throatier tone than that of stock. if you want a visual i can work something out for you and get you an AVI of the exaust at the muffler and in the car.

if you want to keep it quiet, don't get a stillen muffler, or basically any aftermarket muffler out there. my stillen was loud to the point of insanity. i just went back to stock. 2k+ mufflers should fit what you want perfectly, or just keep what you have on there. any straight through mufflers will make it pretty loud.

What about a 50 series flowmaster? That's what i have and it's not too loud. From idle it's noticeable to about 2600 but after that it's almost all intake whether in the car or outside.

what is the quietest muffler (other than stock) with ONLY a y-pipe.... everything else is stock. my main reason for wanting a muffler is for the looks... and a tip isn't very good cuz you can tell its only a tip. maybe if i could somehow chrome the stock muffler? that would fit my needs perfectly..... but a new muffler would be something that i could do..... so would an apexi keep things at least somewhat quiet, and not annoying, while still having a nice muffler look?

why wouldn't you get a b pipe instead of just a muffler, a muffler doesn't do anythign for you, just for looks, unless that's why your getting it
