A couple of good races tonite! LONG

Whats up yall,

I don't post too many races on this .org, but tonite I went out to the main st. strip for the first time in like 6 months... WoW. I lot of fat as2 cars out there. Saw one other maxima, but I think it was stock and auto. Saw many, Civic SI's , Integra Gs-r, one type R, many stangs, and z28 and SS. A couple of turbo dsm's and wrx... and like a million riced out accords, civics, sentras, cavaliers

First Race:

Me vs 94+ integra gs-r
From a 20 mph roll, I was in second gear, he ran out of 2nd b/f me and by end of third i was a good 2 cars ahead. raced like 3 times, same outcome. GS-R had intake, exhaust(muffler?), rims.

Second race:

Me vs. 2002 5 sp V6 camaro with dual exhaust
From a 2nd gear start, I walked him bad! beat him by like 3-5 cars by end of 4th gear. Also, from a 4th gear roll, like 80 mpg on, I walked him more slowly, inching up but still got the win.

Third Race:

Me w/75 shot vs. 1998 Eclipse with 16g turbo and 50 shot.
What a fast ****!!!
This was a bad *** ride putting stangs to shame!
We raced off the line. I used the nitrous after 4000 rpm in first gear for traction purposes. 1st gear pretty even, he had 1/2 car on me. 2nd gear he pulled hard. By the end of 3rd gear he had a good 3-4 cars on me. Maybe its time for me to get a turbo or supercharger!

Tonight I finally got to test my JWT/MEVI setup. I rolled up next to a deep blue 96-98 Mustang GT with Cobra wheels. It sounded relatively stock. I knew he wanted some due to the way he downshifted going to the light. In front of us was I nice long open 45mph road. I told myself it would only be to 60mph. The light turned green and we jumped off the line with the tires chirping a little. Once I hit 5000rpms, I was pulling on him. When I hit 2nd and got to about 50mph, I was a car ahead and by 60mph it was two cars. I shut down and so did he. We roll up to the next light and he just shakes his head and gives the thumbs up and says "what the hell?". The rate at which I pulled away from him was pretty amazing. I can't wait for the track tommorrow.

If it was a stock 96-98 GT 5spd (0-60 6.8ish) then what's there to be proud of?

No , the 96-98 GT's do 0-60 in 6.0-6.2 sec...

"In this class, horsepower and acceleration at a reasonable price are what matter, and the Mustang 4.6-liter V8 has plenty of each. While the new modular single overhead-cam V8 engine doesn't have the loud and lumpy idle quality and ferocious intake roar of the old 5.0-liter overhead-valve V8, it has almost exactly the same power and torque characteristics and accelerates at almost exactly the same rate, with 0-60 mph times in the low 6-second range. That's quick."

I thought the 96-98's were the slowest and the 99's and up were the 0-60 in 6.0 and 1/4 in low 14's....

no, slowest ones were, i believe the 89-93??? 0-60 in like 6.9 seconds... the 4.6 ltr are pretty decent. with 290 lbs of torque stock.

The LX's and GT's are different though (Fox body style), but this thread is about the GT's so you are probably right then.

Yeah, I know, but it's the rate at which I pulled away from this Stang that impressed. I didn't launch hard at all, I was running on my 17s, and I didn't nail 2nd hard. I pulled 2 cars on this Stang from 1st@5000rpms thru 2nd@6000rpms. Seeing I land into 2nd at 4700rpms, the amount of time was just a glimpse at how hard I was pulling away from him. The top of 2nd and everywhere in 3rd is where the MEVI/JWT shines and I didn't use it.

The 96-98 GTs are decent from 0-60 (6.7-6.8), but they lack legs. The 96-98 4.6 SOHC has absolutely nothing after 5000rpms. I've driven them and they feel "punchy", but their powerband is tiny. It ends up killing them on the far end of the track. These GTs are good for upper 14s, but most guys get lower 15s@92mph or so. If this race would have gone to 85mph, it would have been brutal.

BTW, 2 carlengths in a 0-60 race is more along the lines of about of a second quicker sprint to 60mph assuming both cars get off the line at the same time. I'm not claiming to pull sub-6 second 0-60s, but I'd bet I'm close to low low 6s (I have gotten GTechs to show 5.8 well before I did the MEVI/JWT).

98MaxSEL-

Good kills, btw. Sorry for whoring your thread.

I have yet to let anyone feel the wrath of the JWT/MEVI... I haven't even floored my car in 1st gear since october when I was at the track last. 1st gear = useless on all season tires.

This sucks, I have been driving on two tickets and one more means license could go by-by. I have never had so many cars try and bait me to race lately, I just have to shake my head no and follow the speed limit.

I guess that is what the track is for.

I'm kind of worried about the track tommorrow because I'll be running my 15s with all season H-rated Sumitomos. Granted they're brand new, they just don't have the stick of my HTR+ off the line. I can punch it in 1st from a roll and rarely will the tires break traction. They only bark into 2nd. I fear the H-rated tires will spin horribly into 2nd now because my HTR+ bark a lot harder and longer going into 2nd now with the ECU.

As for the race, like I said, it was my 1st street race in two years. It was just clear road ahead, 45mph zone, no cross streets, no traffic in front, and I shutdown at 60mph.

....it still doesn't make it right though

To keep the board from getting clogged with street racing threads.

Street Racing threads (kill threads)
In an effort to reduce the number of street racing threads (or "I raced a such-and-such and won/lost" type threads), they will only be allowed during the weekends.

During the week (Monday morning - Friday afternoon), such threads will be locked and deleted.

Please do not abuse this by turning the 4th gen forum into a street racing/kill forum during the weekends.

"Kills" at the track are of course exempt from this new rule.

Nope, the 88 - 92 (foxbody) cars were rated at 225hp. The '93 was rated at 205. And when the new body came out it was still a 5.0 liter rated at 215hp with about 200 pounds more weight. All of those foxbody cars were quickest GT's untill the base 4.6 went to 260hp.
