Water coolant mix w/distilled or tap?

What type of water should I mix my Toyota factory fluid with? I think distilled would be better than tap. Tap water has living microbes in it such as algea.

Distilled water is free of this correct?

So which one is better?

If you're a bit **** go distilled...tap should be okay though. Usually distilled is most appropriate for batteries. And about the living organisms in water, they'll probably be killed as soon as the fluid reaches a high temperature.

At around $0.58/gallon for distilled at Wal-Mart, there's no reason to use tap water. I clogged a radiator up from deposits once, (calcium in the water) and distilled has no minerals that will deposit themselves in the radiator.

Good Luck!

I think I will use distilled. We don't have town water here, only well water, full of rust and stuff. I will flush with tap though, using the hose.

Anyone know how much fluid the system needs?

Rad capacity is 7 litres. See Motorvate.ca and look under "Engine", "Coolant Change". There are two methods of changing coolant.

Where I live, the water is pretty hard (full of minerals). I'm going to be using distilled water since it's relatively cheap.

Probably best to use distilled water. If you use tap, let it sit over night so that chlorine dissipates (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Also you can pass trhough a brita filter.

@ chlorine dissapating. It's already dissapated completely. Although chlorine is corrosive by nature, antifreeze prevents corrosion to I'm not sure it makes a difference.

Aren't you concerned about mineral sediment accumulating in your rad from using tap water?

After living in Davis, CA for a few years, we have one of the hardest waters anywhere. 0-4 = soft, 5-8 = medium, 9-12 = hard....Davis averages 25.

I'll stick to distilled...

Well in my case we have a water softener so all the tap water is free of minerals and other stuff and we have a distilled-grade filter thingy
