help on red/clear taillights

I took out the taillights out and 5 screws on the housing as well...now i don't really know where to heat it with heat gun...am i suppose to heat between the black housing and the lenses? i'm kinda afraid that i might burn up the rubber seal and etc. what can i do to not get that burned? this doesn't seem that easy
