Clearance lights- any way to make them OFF except when turning? (96)

I have a 96 GLE with the clearance lights that are on (but dim) when the headlights are on and then brighten when you activate a turn signal. The problem is that they look stupid with my other lights. Is there any way to have them OFF unless that side's turn signal is activated?

What bulb # are those? I can just swap out the clear for amber, right? That would be better than the muddy yellow that I have now...I woud really like to just paint over them, but I do like having them on when I am turning...

Why not just cut the wire for the clearance? Then only the turn filament would come on.

Or you could remove the bulb, try to put some tape over the bulb contact for the clearance. I would do this first.

I would just cut the wire to the dim filament as suggested.

I would not try using tape to cover the contact on the bulb though. Electrical tape is an insulator, but you wouldn't want it melting and causing more problems. If you want to bring your lights back to stock all you would have to do is solder/heat shrink them, and they'd be as good as new.

No. On the right, Polarg for clearance, Silverstar for the headlamp.
