Brake upgrade

My car has about 80K on it and the brakes are driving me crazy. I had them turned by the dealer twice and the still pulse. How hard is it to do a rotor swap? What rotors would you recomend? Thanks...

Same deal here with the pulsing. If you have a little $ to spend and want to upgrade go w/ brembo rotors. You can find them on eBay for around $200 for all 4. I just picked up a set of OEM replacements because money is tight, but I may upgrade later this summer.

Did you swap your rotors yet? If so was it fairly easy? Hopefully I can avoid the dealer and do it myself.
I haven't done much work on this car yet, but I plan to start. I may do the OEM replacement and spend the money on new tires and a four wheel alignment.

Thanks again

I am getting Raybestus, I think. If not I will do Bendix. I have not done them, but from what I understand it can be done if you have any mechanical ability and a Hayne's or Chilton's manual.

Get some $30 rotors from autozone and do it yourself. $60 + 1 hour (first time labor) is not bad for a brake job. Replacing brake rotors is insanely easy. Take off the wheel. Take off the caliper (2 14mm bolts) and take off the caliper bracket (2 17 or 19mm bolts) and use a rubber mallet to bang the rotor off the hub. Reverse process and you are done.

A few additional things to remember - use a c clamp to push the piston back into the caliper bore before removing the caliper, lube the pins and check their boots (replace the boots if damaged or else you'll end up with a seized pin as water enters and rusts them (I know from experience)), make sure you tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque when putting the caliper back on - too tight and your pads will rub excessively, I dunno what happens if too loose - maybe you'll get rattling and poor pedal/braking feel.

I was wondering, are the breaks supposed to be horrible when the car is in neutral? I'm still kind of new to driving manual, and my friend says its always better to brake while in gear. I usually do this, but sometimes I'll just pop it in neutral and coast to the red light, and when I try and stop, I really have to bite into the brakes. They don't respond well at all in neutral, but they're okay in gear. Should I get them replaced soon? A little while ago my mechanic said they probably have about 5000 miles left in them, but my car is a 98. Brakes should last longer? Thanks for the feedback, and letting me post this on the thread.
