98 Recall question

My car falls under the alternator recall and i am wondering if i really need to change it or not. can it still brake, the car has 54K miles? Is there a way to tell if its broken or not?

Since you're still under warranty and have the recall and such, why not replace it anyways?

I'd say the alternator needs replacing someday, it's a part of any car that'll need replacing whenever it breaks. At least that's what I thought.

Under recall? Fix it.

I just bought my 1998 GLE. Does it apply to second owners not under warranty?

Yes. it will always apply until ever alternator has been replaced. goto the dealer and theyll tell u if its been replaced in the past under warranty at a nissan dealer. if it hasnt, theyll do it all for free. even if it was replaced by a non nissan dealer and paid for out of someones pocket theyll put a new nissan alternator in. im the 3rd or so owner or a 97 max with 90k miles. took the car into a dealership just once and they said were replacing this under warranty, as well as some fuel hose clamp thing. zero dollars and zero cents to me.

Isn't the recall becauase there can be a short that could cause a fire?!? Get the thing replaced, why would you not want a new, free alternator?

Take it in, it's worth a new alternator. Rule #1 if the stealership is offering it free, take it. Except that free 100 point Nissan Inspection they are offering. When you call them up about it, they say "we need to keep your car at least a half a day" I bet that saves them from doing alot of them.

I am the second owner of my car and it has 135K on it. They still did it for me and mine was fine.

Wasn't going to pass up a free alternator when mine lasted 135K though!
