hey i heard awhile back that the 99 max was the slowest 4th gen made? i was going to trade my 97 auto for a 99 5 speed, but now im kinda wondering what i should do...i will not get a 95/96 but out of the 97-99 5 speeds, which one is the quickest? im also planning on getting a gxe, which will hopefully weigh the least. thanks for the help

going from any auto to a 5 speed is worth it... I think most people have concluded they the reason the 97-99s are slower is because of the emissions. My guess is that if you do a full aftermarket exhaust, then you will be just as fast as a 95 5 spd.

 

well ok that wasnt what i was asking...i already have place racing intake, cattman ypipe, stillen b-pipes and muffler. im not worried about being "as fast as a 95 5-speed." i want to know what is the best year out of 97 98 and 99 to buy. i will be buying a gxe 5 speed so which year was the best? thanks.
