my high end really sux.

Im an auto and that just makes it worse but my high end power really bites. I was racing with my friends new 03 matrix xrs 6 speed and it took me a while to catch up and pass him. Will a y pipe help me pull harder on the high gears. I know a meiv will do the trick but too expensive for me right now. I definetly need a ypipe. will a b pipe help also. thanx.

Basic intake/midpipe/Y-pipe will do it, trust me. Last weekend (local races) I raced a 96 maxima that was pretty much stock doing some highway runs (it was totally clear) we did sprints from a 60 punch and there was no contest. I pulled off the highway to turn around and noticed that he also was exiting (it was a long exit ramp, and he was way back there) so I pulled off to the side to talk to him (I rarely see anyone under the age of 35 driving a max, and the chances of them being enthusiasts is about like getting struck by lightning.) He was looking up and down my car and asked if I had a turbo I said no just intake and Y-pipe, and then made a shamless plug for the .Org to let him know where he could learn how to mod the Max.

A couple of days later I saw a 97 with clear corners etc., he honked and asked to talk to me, so I pulled over and we were discussing how we could get some meets going (he has another friend with a Max who is interested as well.) We were right next to the tollway that has new flat frontage roads, no side streets, a huge hill on one side and a big open field on the other, and you could walk across it on your hands anytime of the day because there is absolutly no traffic, so I said "want to run em just to see what the difference is (he was stock)?" He said OK, and we lined them up and took off on the third honk (two seperate times with the same result), again no contest, it is honestly like night and day once you un-cork the VQ, start with the basics then re-evaluate, a B-pipe will give minimal gains. Start with intake/make your own midpipe (link is below)/ and Y-pipe.

If your short on cash making the midpipe will save you a lot, also check the for sale forums for an intake, you should be able to get on for $50.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

As far as mods go, like the others said, a Y, MEVI etc will all make your top end better than stock. But maybe this is simply a maintenance issue A clogged feul filter will hurt your top end alot. When I 1st got my car, I couldn't get it past 125 mph, and this is a 98 SE. Did basic tuneups here and there, and once I did the feul filter, 140+ And acceleration from 3500 rpms on up was livelier. I guess my feul filter was never changed and it had 40K miles on it at the time. Worth a look.

They are about 10 bux....and they are very easy to replace if you dont mind smelling like gas....the filter is cliped onto the driver side fire wall. I did not take the pressure out of my fuel system when I did this so I sprayed a little gas....oh well, its easy

go to your fuse box inside the car below your left leg. Open it up and on the other side it shows wich fuse does what locate the one for the fuel punp and take it out. Then try turning on your car. If it turns on (which it shouldn't), let it run until it dies out. Then crank it for acouple of more times just to be sure. After all this, the pressure should be relieved

Yes it should turn on as there is till pressure in the lines. The car will start to sputter and die. They you need a screwdriver very thin, small flat head to get under the line and pry it off...
