98 gle oil leak

i just picked up a 98 gle loaded w/70k for $8500. i noticed a oil leak on the drivway. is there a known problem, or has anybody else had this problem. ive only had the car 5 days. thinking of taking back to the lot i bought it from, unless its an easy fix. IE couple hundred dollars.

any ideas it looks like its coming from the pass side front of car. nothing visible from under hood. cnat tell from the bottom.

thanks
Mike

haha couple hundred dollars?! that's a pretty expensive fix. Well, there IS a known problem w/ the maxima. I suggest you read the FAQ at the top of the 4th gen forum. It has all the basic information a new owner will find most useful.

As for the leak... is it coming from the passenger side? The maxima is known to have bad oil-pressure sending unit. That thing is easy to fix yourself. THe part is 5 bucks @ autozone and the deep socket required to remove it is about another 4-5 bucks. Quick fix, i did it 3 oil changes ago. Check out the FAQ for more info.

Try the pressure switch first, if that doesnt fix it then take it back because I heard it is a upper oil pan gasket. Which is very expensive, my car has the same fricken leak.
