LEDs in all external lights a good idea?

I'm thinking of replacing all my external lights with LEDs that are of the same "plug" style/bulb type # as the filament bulbs. LEDs last a ton longer and a cluster of them give off nice light. THey also react instantly for brake lights so theyll fit well with the spoiler LEDs. Has anyone done this with any or all of their lights? How much $ am i looking at? Hopefully the initial cost will be offset by their long life. Any websites that sell them or give deals to maxima.org members? Thanks!

LEDs don't have the same light scatter that regular bulbs do so you may notice the light is brighter from directly in front of the bulbs but dimmer from other angles. I had some in my rear turn signals and since the bulbs mount facing outwards the light was brighter from the sides than from the rear.

had

do u mean you "had some" as in you took them out cause they sucked or something? i suppose i could just use them for brake lights because they dont need to scatter light. if its a well built "cluster of LEDs" it should scatter light somewhat in multi directions since the manufacturer makes them to replace regular filament bulbs. hmmmm. I might give them a try.

Yes "had" as in they sucked! I had the cluster of LEDs but since all the LEDs are pointed in the same direction they don't give off an intense scatter. The brake lights would probably be a bad place for them since the bulbs don't point straight back they point to the outside of the lenses. Just take a look at how your bulbs sit in the tailight housing now and picture the LEDs pointing outwards. I can tell you that it would be bright if you were standing on the side of the car looking at the tails but not as bright standing behind the car.

LED's in all of the front lights.....

I installed white LED lights in my corner lamps and sidemarkers to compliment the 7000k HID's I have in my headlights and foglights. The LED's are very-very close to the color of the HIDs. Highly recommended for people looking to match their HIDs! I would not recommend the LED lights for anyone that's running any other "superwhite" bulb in their headlights/foglights...because this will only make those seem very yellow in comparison to the extreme white color of the white LEDs. By the way...I have Amber LED's on order for my turn-signals...which should get rid of that orange bulb color from within my clear corner(when they are not on)...so as to give it a nice clean look. I ordered the white (1157 & 194) LEDs from www.showtimeautotrix.com and the amber (1156) LEDs from www.jcwhitney.com Hope this helps! Take care...Lata!

you need load equalizers for every 1156 and 1157 bulb

i just recently put in red LED's in my rear turn signals and it's true, they are a lot less visible than the regular amber ones during the daytime, but the good thing is u cant see any color through the lens like u could with the amber ones.. at night they are fine though.. also, i noticed that they blink a lot faster now when i turn on my turn signals, does anyone know why this happens or if it is harmful to any wiring in the car?? i know that on some cars the light blinks really fast when one of them is out, but both my front and rear ones work..

They blink faster because the LEDs draw less wattage and thus your circuitry thinks you have a burnt bulb. It shouldn't hurt anything but there is no way to get it to blink normal.

Then what do these load equalizer things do that JC96MAX was talking about?

1157

I think I'm going to get some 1157 wide patter LEDs for the rear brake lights. 19 LEDs in a cluster with some angled to the sides and others straight should give a decent beam pattern. I forget, is this bulb red or clear behind the red plastic lens?
Thanks.
