Rant and Rave: bad day

Well, I've had some manual woes the past couple of days, and I must lament. First off, today was the 3rd(third) day, in a row, I went from 2nd-5th gear!!!! There goes my transmission I don't know what is wrong with me! Running late and being new to manual is not a good combination, throw in a short-shifter...bad news. Also, as I'm coming home today, I missed third gear and the engine revved! This was like, right after hitting 2nd-5th. Luckily, only revved to like 4k. And, close to home...got my orange light come on. First 2 times it pulled P0440 and P1448. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up and it'll come up the same codes...And after filing my tax return with my parents today, I realized I'm only getting like $250 back...I was hoping 1K. Man...bad weekend. Sorry, had to rant and rave...and lament.

no, going from 3rd to 5th is not a bad thing at all. all you are doing is putting alittle more "strain" on the engine and tranny but absolutly nothing that would cause any problems. and revin the engine up to 4k is not that bad either. i rev my engine up to 5-6k to flaunt my intake. granted it is not the best thing in the world, but 4k is realy nothing to worry about. so now that you know you are fine, concentrate on good shifting habits, and don't get stressed out about the mistakes you make.. it only makes you more nervous when driving!

I hit near redline many, many, many times per week.

Never had any kind of problem.....oil looks clean everytime I drain it. (Mobil 1 Synthetic, 3k miles)

Of course, I'm Auto - but same effect.

Why would you get a STS if you're still learning to drive stick?

Thanks for all the support guys. I wasn't racing, I just missed the gear. Glad I didn't screw anything up, still bummed out about the light comin on. I think its EVAP Canister Vacuum or sometin like that, gotta get it checked out next week on my spring break. The STS came with the car, I got it hooked up, possibly a (former) .org member. Thanks again, sorry I had to bit** for so long.:attention

Yea man, don't worry about it. everyone gets so skittish when they drive an MT for the first time..I was no exception I guess.

In some GM cars they force you to skip 2 and 3 and go 1->4 (when you're not driving the car hard) to save gas. Don't worry about skipping gears, you just don't want to lug the engine too much..so just shift back into 3rd or 4th if your RPM's are too low. The revving thing really freaks people out for some reason...you can rev your engine (I mean don't sit there for an hour with it bouncing off the rev limiter but...) it won't hurt anything.
