Go on Ebay, and buy a remote for about 20 bucks. The dealer will rape you. And programming is easy. I got an extra remote for my '99 Maxima when one of the originals got lost. Just go to the car section and to the parts and accessories, and put in nissan maxima remote. There are usually a few available.

Now it's raining - do I have to go out and wind them up manually?

Is it possible to use an '00-up remote on a 99?

I had a friend just discover that on his '97 Max. I am unable to do it on my 2000 Max GLE.

What's with that.

press it 10 times and hold on 10th to set on self distruct mode (not recommended unless at the dealership).

I think the lapdance is for the GXE. If you have the SE or GLE they take you to the "back room".

In all seriousness, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the room lamp on/off feature on select remotes.

you mean the dome light turning on when unlocking the doors.. that not a feature...every max has it (even when using the key)..just leave dome switch in middle position

I have a after market alarm installed in my car along with the factory alarm. Can i program my aftermarket alarm remote to work with the nissan alarm and after market alarm at the same time?

yes the hazard lights flashes. But is it possible to program the nissan alarm to be controled by my commander remote control while still keeping all the functionality on the after factory alarm?

Ooo, no ... what I meant was that the third button does different things depending on the remote you have. I should have been clearer in my first post.

Option A:
Third button has a picture of a speaker (I think), works as a panic.

Option B:
Third button has a picture of a light, hitting it toggles the room lamp on/off. Nice at night, when I want to check if I left anything in the car (I have tinted windows). Tap it once, room lamp comes on, tap it again and the lamp shuts off. Door remains locked. Alarm stays on.
For this type of remote, the panic is combined with the lock button ... holding the lock button down will engage the panic.

The room lamp has to be set on the middle position, I know it comes on when you unlock the doors or pull the key out of the ignition switch.

If you have remote option B, you basically have an extra 'feature' on your remote.

Ben is a moderator ... davey6693 is wondering why this thread hasn't been locked. Probably coz it's back on topic.

when i had my 95 max., my remote used to work deferently from the one i have now on 98. the "panic" used to be hold "lock", and the horn button used to turn on/off the light in the car, and the remote used to work on extremely long distance.

Don't feel bad about all the smart-a$$ remarks. I just found out about this by accident last week, too.

this is how i got my remote setup

hold the unlock button and my windows roll down
press the lock button my windows roll up

hold the alarm button for 3 seconds then press the unlock button and my engine starts

and a funny story:

i was walking to my car in a parking lot and there were a few people getting into their car beside mine, i showed off a bit by rolling the windows down, one guy got freaked out but then started looking in the car and as he put his arm in the car as if to take something i pressed the lock button and the windows starting rolling back up and the guy almost #$%& his pants lol i was almost on the floor laughing so hard.

You are just kidding about the roll-up feature, right? I know that you can't do that, so did you just rewire your car or something??

My windows roll up too ... there's a switch on the door that when you push in one direction, it rolls up. I must be lucky, the driver switch can roll up all the windows. Wow!
