This is what happens when your MEVI doesn't open in 3rd gear at the track

I had two runs on which my MEVI apparently didn't open in 3rd gear.

For comparison, the average of my trap speeds on the runs where my MEVI did open (apparently) in all gears was 100.25. This number includes the 2 runs I made with no weight reduction whatsoever. The traps, in order of highest to lowest were:

100.99
100.91
100.56
100.55
100.17
100.14
99.92
99.91<--no weight reduction
99.66<--no weight reduction
99.64

The two runs where my MEVI didn't open were 98.21 and 97.69.

---------
1/8th mile trap speeds
---------
My 1/8th mile trap speeds were varying by quite a bit as they normally do. They are more dependent upon how well you get off the line and how well you bang the 1-2 shift.

80.08
79.68
79.50
79.37
79.31
79.26
79.08
78.96
78.68
78.67
78.34
78.03

The relay and/or the RPM switch is the culprit. It has nothing to do with the MEVI itself. Why are you getting apprehensive.

How did you determine that your VI isn't engaging in 3rd?

My Harlan flaked out again yesterday I've now set the switch's LED within viewing range while I'm driving. There seems to be some kind of issue with the RPM switch set at 4900-5000 vs setting it at 5100-5200rpms....at least for me. I'm now using a 5100rpm switchover now.

BTW, I think the same thing must have happened to me at the track because my trap speeds on my first two runs were in the lower 97mph range and then I pulled off a 99 trap AFTER I turned the car off for 10 minutes. This is all so frustrating. It's got to be related to the cuurent draw of the MAP switch on the RPM switch.

1) Expensive

2) I'm a 99.5 (no ECU)

3) RPM switch problems (Harlan's fault but it still isn't good)

4) I'm a 5-spd. Minimal gains w/o ECU.

5) Loss of midrange (ECU again)

Yes, that's what ****ed me off the most. I still won though.

Dave-It is quite obvious as you are revving thru 6500rpms and it's just not climbing as fast as it was the run before.

Blue-I see.

I had a bolt-on 5-speed 97 with STOCK ECU.

with the addition of the MEVI I went from running 14.7-14.8@93-94mph to running 14.4-14.5@96-97mph and that doesn't even show how much the damn thing pulled in the upper gears on the highway.

Take it for what you will...just my .02

My usual trap speeds before the VI were 90MPH I trapped at 91 Clutch slipping all the way through 1st and 2nd, I think thats pretty good for not getting much power down through the first 2 gears and my et was roughly the same as before the VI. I'll let you know more when I get a good run in.
