Redline MT-90

Hey guys, I can't find the Redline manual tranny oil anywhere! Well, I only looked in 2 places, but that's all I have here. I looked for the Amsoil stuff too. The only synthetic oil I could find was some Mobil 1 stuff. How is this compared to Redline/Amsoil? I need 80W-90 that is at least GL-5 rated, right?

Also, what is the best kind of motor oil for my car? I have almost 80k miles.....

Thanks!
Shawn

Sometimes. The GL5 spec calls for double the amount of extreme pressure additives. These can attack the softer metals in a tranny designed solely for a GL4 lube. The high quality synthetic lubes have a chemistry that prevents these additives from attacking the softer metals allowing them to be safely used in a GL4 tranny. If you use a conventional GL5 lube, more than likely you will have some issues.

The MT-90 is perfect for what you need, GL-5 shouldn't be used for transmissions that require GL-4 because of the additive package that can make for harsher engagement.

Stay away from GL-5. If you're thinking of changing the tranny fluid yourself, I have pics/instructions that can help you on pg. 7 of my homepage.

Not necessarily. There are GL4 80W-90's and there are GL5 80W-90's just as there are GL4 75W-90's and GL5 75W-90's. It's very hard to find a conventional GL4 gear oil at an auto parts store, they mostly have the GL5 lubes. In the synthetic area, you'll find oils that can safely meet GL4 and GL5 without harming your transmission in both 75W-90 and 80W-90.

If you want Redline, call Summit Racing and ask for it.

1-800-230-3030

They keep it in stock. It ships VERY quick. It comes from Ohio. I live in West Virginia, and it gets here the NEXT DAY via UPS if I order it in the morning. Yes, that is regular ground UPS.

Good Luck!

Yes. If you decide to go with Redline, just buy the MT-90 and you won't have to think about anything else.

Glad to contribute a little something back to org'ers after I've gotten so much benefit from everyone else. btw, www.motorvate.ca has a LOT of really good how-to's! Now there's a site that rocks.

Both Amsoil and Redline are excellent products. Which one is better for you is a subjective questions. Amsoil offers better wear protection and Redline will have the edge in low temperature shift quality.

Amsoil's Series 2000 75W-90 is the best gear oil for applications where the car is worked hard and is the one I use and recommend. It's $7.56/quart. There are also 2 other gear oils available for consideration as well if the Series 2000 is too much overkill for your needs.

Redline ATF for the Max would be the D4 ATF.
