Thoughts on the MEVI.

I understand the concept of the MEVI...or so I think. It's basically like the V-TEC system in that it allows you more power at the top of your gears because the Max is known for not having much zip after 5k. Has anyone installed one, how much do they cost, where do ya find them and were/are you satisfied with the results. Thanks in advance.

I dont have one but... lots of people have them, they cost somewhere around 600$+ with the switches and cover. Look in the group deals section, its basically the only way you'r getting one. Im pretty sure everyone who has one loves it, especially when combined with a JWT ECU with the rev limiter set at 7200.

I just installed mine last wednesday. I absolutely love it. It is like V tec in that is facilitates higher output at upper rpm's but unlike it in the fact that vtec switches cam profile and MEVI switches intake parameters. It is a mod that is unlike any other. Just the installation of MEVI on a stock max will not net a quicker 1/4 mile. (as I saw at the track this past weekend) but at the same time it makes better use of other mods. I see you have a Y pipe, the MEVI will give you more benifit from this. Facts are, and please correct me if I am wrong, on a 5 speed max you can do the following mods,
1. intake and popcharger $300
2. MEVI with parts $650
3. budget Y pipe $160
4. JWT ECU $550
-------------------------------
total $1660

you can do these and have a car with high 13 second potential. Not to bad.

Thanks!

Wow, sounds pretty awesome, anyone else installed the MEVI? How much time did it take you to install it and what level of experience is necessary to do this?

True, do those mods, put on some slicks, and be good at drving a 5sp and it very possable to hit 13's. Those 4 are the best N/A mods you can do to your car. All other N/A bolt ons (catback, underdrive pulley, ect) will not give you as good gains as those, nor will they make that much of a difference in 1/4 mile times.

If im reading your time slips correctly you are showing 16's. Is your car an auto? I did see a difference of about .5 secs in the 1/4 mile with the MEVI which isn't bad but im wondering if anyone else is getting better results? Just curious: what do you think my car would run the 1/4 mile in with a decent driver and the MEVI mod installed? Mods: Cold air intake, y-pipe, apexi?

Yeah, that was Auto with only a HAI, Y-Pipe, and MEVI.

Now I'm boosted, and much faster.

Intake and popcharger?

Anyhow, to maximize (excuse the pun ) the full potential of all the NA mods, I would add:

B pipe with resonator.
5th gen or perhaps a Borla muffler.
a UDP.

Yeah do all that and you are still right at $2000 and you are in the 13's on street tires.

There are lots of guys with MEVI on here that run the 1/4 mile, but unfortunately search isn't working so well.

Install took me about 10 hours the first time (spread over 3 days). I duplicated it again on a friends car in 2 hours. Once you know what you're doing its easy as pie.

With those mods you could be good for 14.5ish. Hopefully you don't have a 99 because if you do you can't get a JWT ECU. Personally I'd get the ECU first if I had it to do over again. But who knows how long the MEVI will be readily available, its rather hard to get ahold of and if ian stops selling them you may be only able to find one used.
