Input on Y-Pipes Please

I've read info about pros and cons of the stillen, catman, wspeed, and budget. I like the price of the budget, but am wondering if there are problems with rusting, installation, rattling?

Thanks for the input!

For 160, its the best bang for the buck thing you could do to a Max. Nearly everyone will highly recommend it. Don't forget to get an intake also. What intake is the best you might ask in the future, just get a cheap one off ebay if you are on a budget, or go with frankencar intakes.

I am also in the process of buying a y-pipe this upcoming week (Budget or Warpseed). I have the same concerns (bees-in-a-can, rattling, fit, etc.) and would appreciate all feedback. Thanks.

to those who are concerned:

1. y-pipe is UNDER the car. who gives a sh*t how it looks, unless you like to show your car upside down.
2. if and when y-pipe will be truly rusted (not some stuff on the surface), your maxima will be up in that magic place in the sky.
3. i have a budget y-pipe myself, with a budget b-pipe with a resonator, and stock cat and muffler. were no bees when i had just the y, and no bees currently. i am wondering though, how my car would sound without the resonator? not that it sounds bad in any way currently.

All pipes will offer the same performance gains. So in the end you should just go with the Budget pipe. As you can see it has everything the more expensive pipes have for much less.

I don't have a resonator on my car, and you get a nice low burbling... I also have a Stillen Y, and I notice a bit of rattling when I step on it, otherwise, its nice and low... quite a drone between 2k and 2500, but oh well, I'm dealing with it...

yeah, i've had my budget for a few months now and after a week or so it started to rattle a little... but only on a downshift, high rpm's, and no throttle. it kinda gurgles... sounds cool and i've had some compliments on it too. but def. get the budget Y... best price.. great quality... great service (got it in 4 days from Canada)... and i've heard warpspeed y's... sounds pretty bad to me.

try bending your heat shield out of the way. i have a very very small rattle and havent gotten around to it yet, but look under your car around the cat and the pipe where it goes up to the engine there should be some metal close to the pipe. like i said i havent done this yet but use a hammer to tap these out of the way and that should take care of it.

get a budget

good luck

Either I just got lucky, or Warpspeed's service is getting better. I got my aluminized steel mandrel bent y in three days for $215 shipped. Installing today!

Just ordered mine from Warpspeed this afternoon. $215. I am feeling lucky for a three to four day delivery.

Do the different brand pipes cause different horsepower/torque characteristics? Or are they all pretty much the same (and far better over stock)?

Looking into getting one myself...

Thanks.

They'll all produce near the same power. Go with whoever you want in that respect.

ABOUT INSTALLING Y-PIPE

When I get my budge Y-pipe, how do I go about installing it? It sounds simple but many of you mentioned a lot of sh$t that has to be done. For instance, some of you said that you might need a resonator - what is that and where does it go? Does the Y-pipe come with screws and everything? Also, I heard a lot being said about doing something to the front O2 sensor when installing the Y-pipe...what exactly has to be done? Any feedback would be appriciated!

1. You don't need a resonator. Resonators usually go on the bpipe.
It goes:
intake->Engine->Y-pipe->Cat->bpipe->muffler
2. If you're not mechanically inclined, a Y-pipe install might not be a good thing to do on your own. Either get help or have somebody else do it.
I ended having it done at a shop the first time, cause the bolts were just too rusted on. But since I've done it over 5 times.

Instructions are in the FAQ:

I am having mine done at a local repair shop recommended by a fellow MaximaOrg member. Didn't want to deal with it.

Whats up Moe. Remember me?

Did you get your ypipe yet? I'm still waiting for mine. Budget didn't even get the payment from my Credit Card yet and I ordered last Monday.
