Tick Tick Tick...what's the noise?

Today I had the hood open and the car running, and there was a ticking coming from the engine. I was in auto class when this happened, so the teacher busted out as stethoscope (sp). We put it on the intake manifold and really couldn't hear the ticking, couldn't hear the ticking on the spark plug cover, but if we put it on the fuel rail or fuel injectors you could really hear the clicking. It sorta sounded like a sloshing too...anybody have an idea what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance...

Injector a bit loud. Try some Marvel Mystery Oil in your gas tank.

I think it's your injectors. Nothing to worry about it's just the way they sound when they shoot fuel.

My car ticks too I think they all do, nothing loud or nothing, I only hear it when I'm by the engine bay with the hood open, it is the injectors ticking, and my trusty mechanic told me when I asked about it and he said "Believe me you want that" lol, lets get some more feedback from other people does your engine do the same?

Yep, I have the ticking sound too. I tried revving the engine a little to see if it increased with the engine speed and it doesn't, so that at least tells me it's not a valve knocking. My mechanic says it's nothing to worry about....

Yeah, it is the injectors. I have the samething in my '99 Max. I thought it was a sticky lifter but, it was just the injectors.

It is very normal. I have that, but i also have the timing chain chatter too. When should it concern me? My engine is louder than a lot of people that i know that have maximas. It is even louder than my friends 300zxTT. Is there anything i can do to remove any residue or gunk in my lubrication system? I am already running synthetic oil, and i have noticed that i use a little oil when i changed to Mobil 1 5w-30 which is something that i have heard is normal, because of the thickness of the oil(?). Is there anything I can do to keep the chain noise down?

thanks

mike

I would have never guessed you to use mystery stuff so you've really got to explain this one...what is it supposed to do and have you used it?

I had the ticking(about 30K miles ago)...just as you have now.

1. I ran the tank to near empty.
2. Put in 2 bottles of REDLINE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER.
3. Filled up the tank with 93 Mobil
4. Changed the Spark Plugs (NGK OEM)
5. Changed the Fuel filter.

the following week I added only 1 bottle of REDLINE.
NO tick since then. I am at 80K miles.
