it depends on how much exhaust noise you want

1.Y-Pipe--Stillen,Cattman($400.00?) HP 15-30 Best bang for the buck not real loud if you keep stcok cat and muffler
2.Freeflow cat converter Randon Technology($200.00?) HP5-10?
added to y-pipe=more noise, not bad alone,
3.Muffler various brands(Stillen,Greddy,Apexi......)$$$$$???
HP5-10 very loud all together....alone still loud....these are just my estimates I'm sure some else will be posting more indept info on this subject...

I also have a question. I am getting a new intake. If I get a y-pipe do I need to update the rest of the exhaust? I know if I did it would give me more performance but I do really need to in order to get the full effect of the y-pipe?

The best setup for the most amount of power with the least amount of noise is: intake, Y-pipe, RT cat, stock muffler. You would gain a few more horsepower with a free-flow exhaust, but it would be really loud. The afore-mentioned setup is as quiet as stock under part throttle, and has a mean growl under WOT.

from what i know...

the next thing you should get if you get a y-pipe is an intake. they compliment each other very well, and get almost maximum potential of each unit. but, on the other hand, getting a whole exhuast system will always be more benificial, but if it's money you're trying to save, just get an intake for the moment. (then add your high-flow cat and cat back later)

the concept is

breathe in and breathe out
now...our stock car don't do both at its maximum yet..but pretty good
the most restrictive part again is the y pipe and intake...I am not sure if header is bad...but since no aftermarket is available...and yet to be proven...we only have those two that shows somewhat good gains, complementing each other...
for Ypipe...see about 10-15 FWHP..intake 2-7 FWHP...
these power is not additive....they are complementing each other....no you can not algebarically add them....does not work that way
muffler..yeah...some gain there....probably at most is 5 on the wheel and yes it will be louder than stock..
well anyway....have fun with your car...
