(A New) 5-Speed Conversion Question

I have read quite a few posts on the .org about 5-sp conversion in the past few months but I haven't found any references to this:

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is a different part for manual from the one for auto. The one for manual is about $50 and the auto is $150. When you do the conversion it seems that you don't have to get a 5-sp TPS, but would it make any difference if you got one? Anyone know?

I am not planning on doing the conversion just yet but I probably will in the future and until then I am trying to compile a list of the parts I need to get when I decide to convert. (Can't wait...)

i think the newer updated part number for TPS are both the same. basically the auto and manual are the same.

i have a question. for people with gle models with the wood grain trim... when you do the 5 speed conversion, is there a wood grain dash piece that will go around the shifter? or would you have to swap out your wood grain for all black plastic dash to have everything match? and how hard is it to get rid of all the wood trim (around the window controls, radio, little drawer thing, ashtray) and replace it with the all black plastic?

I don't think that it would make a difference. I know that it hasn't on mine...

You are right - I just checked and they are the same for later years than mine ('95). I haven't thought of that. Woohooo - one less part to replace in the conversion!!!!

anyone that has 5 speed and a 4th gen with wood grain has the automatic woodgrain shifter console. the 97+ came with this auto console and i dont think any 95-96 came with a wood grain if 5 speed....

Can someone please send me a link to a previous post explaining all of the necessary equipment, etc. that you would need to do the 5speed conversion? Also, where would be the best place to find a 5speed transmission... junk yard?
