My friend, while i wouldn't really call him a friend, more if a nemisis. He drives his mommy's 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6 auto and is trying to tell me he can beat my max and that he got a 6.54 0-60 time the other day. I told him he was full of $h** and was a liar. I then went to car and driver and got the road test on his car and it said 8.8 seconds and i showed it to him. He says it's wrong and he knows his car. What a bunch of horse $h**. I would so beat him senseless, please clarify this for me.

P.S. this kid is the dumbest f*** you'll ever meet.

Reminds me of a guy I knew in college who told everyone that he got a ticket in his 87 or 88 Pathfinder going 125 mph. I showed him the Road and Track article saying his vehicle's top speed was one of the lowest they'd tested at only 95 mph. He insisted "his Pathfinder" was faster (even though it was stock)> WHATEVER.....

I bet I can beat the dumbass competition........ I once met this guy in a bar who claimed to have run a 4 second quarter mile in his Corvette(this was back in 87 so bear in mind that the top fuel rails were still in the 5's). Of course he couldn't show it to me because he had to sell it, it was too fast. I told him it was impossible to get a 3500 pound car to a 4 second quarter because you would need well over 2000 hp. He said it was making 2000 hp(LOL) to this I replied, "there would be no way to control it with the size of tire you can get on a Vette" he said, "oh yeah, it was all over the track". Worst part of it was, he wasn't drunk. I say race the guy first chance you get, and put money on it. I also knew this punk kid once who managed to buy a 95 5.0 Stang convertible(in 95) and he insisted he could do a 5.5 0-60 and beat my Pontiac Grand Am. Sad truth was that the stang never did better than a mid to high 15 that year, and we are talking experienced drivers on a track too, let alone some stupid punk on the street. There is one born every minute and perhaps the best way to deal with this guy is just laugh at him hysterically next time he starts his bs. Hold on to your sides with tears in your eyes and say "stop!! your killing me!!!" hehe, that should get him.

My mom's 98 FORD EXPLORE XLT runs 5.6 on 0-60... hahaha.. jk.. Don't waste your time on loser like this.. I rather race with my friend's GEO METRO to prove him that even METRO can heat his mom's fatty Escape.. after you beat him with METRO tell him that METRO run 4s on 1/4 track.. lolz...

Well, after you burn him by like ten cars lengths when you two race, tell him that since his Ford Escape does 0-60 in 6.54s, then that means your Maxima does 0-60 in under 6 seconds. Hahaha....

Make it more interesting...

- Besides putting some money down on this race, make it a little more interesting by hosting a triathalon of cars. Tell him that for each event he can beat you in, you will double the bet money. You can whup him in braking, cornering, and acceleration, and just about anything else fancies you. But please don't be stupid and host this thing on a public road - leave that to the Ricers. Go find an empty parking lot, or something quasi-legal.
- Or, just ignore him, badmouth him and his Mommy's car around your school/work and be satisfied in knowing that your car is far superior. You don't have to prove anything to anyone.
- You also might want to tell him that they won't even allow his vehicle on a track. No trucks or cute-utes allowed, unless, of course, it's an emergency vehicle! LOL ;-)

Speaking of Explorers, listen to this!

- While my good friend was waiting for the engine rebuild to finish on his Miata, he drove an old '86 Volvo 240. He welded on a half-*** cat back and redid the intake just so that he could live with the car. Other than that, it was quite stock and quite slow.
- So one day, an Explorer pulls up to the light next to him and starts revving his engine. My friend decided to see just how slow his car was and proceeded to race the guy out of the light. He did a neutral to drive drop on his slushbox and proceeded to romp on the guy. At the next light, the Explorer gets right next to my friend and demands to know what he had done to the car. When my friend finished explaining that the car was virtually stock, the guy started banging on his steering wheel and cursing. It turns out that he knew some guy at Ford and had specially ordered this Explorer Sport with a tuned up V-8 and a 5-speed! It couldn't even beat an 80's junker!
- This is partly why I will never own a truck (unless it is a tow vehicle for my track car).

This not a ford lightning, and an SMX maxima could whip a lightning and most cars every day of the week too. We're talking stock here.

actually an smx maxima would get it's *** handed to it by a lightning as well. The lightning is like, the 13th fastest production car ever made... that includes, porsche, vipers, camaro ss's, cobras.

plus - a lightning is stock from the factory as well. But yeah, you'd beat on a escape

I wasn't originally talking to you I was responding to SleeperSE on his comments about why he'd never own a truck =)

Yea...an a Syclone/Typhoon would run the 1/4 mile, stop, turn around, and go back before the Lightening driver ever knew what hit him!

A buddy of mine has a 92 Syclone - it's the fastest vehicle that I ever have been in. It's friggen unbelivable.

No, the lightning would not win at all, there are SC max's running mid 13'sin the 1/4 and mid 5's in the 0-60 and the lightning is fast, i will give it that, but will not beat a SC MAX. Sorry

Wow are you guys crazy or what? You really need to research your trucks before you post a reply

abermike: nice try but the syclone sports a 280hp turbo'd v6 which produces 350 lb/ft torque. the lightning pumps out... hold on to your crotch... 360 hp and 440 lb/ft torque.

BTW - I think the 2001 svt's get a bump up to 380.

DMBMaxima: Read the above numbers and find me a supercharged maxima that can hang with that. There isn't one.

Ya the output figures for the engine might be higher but the max is lighter and geared better so even with the less power it puts out it will still beat it. Just saw an article for the new lighting, 5.8 0-60.

Fair enough, but now we're talking heavily modded max against a stock lightning. That's like saying a civic can beat a maxima just because there are some civics running 10's. Know what I'm saying?

Just like the maxima can be upgraded so can the lighning.

I've seen quite a few lightnings at shows putting out 500+ hp. 100 shot of Nos, Chipped, and upgraded boost/smaller pulleys will all yield a lot of power on the big V8. Plus the torque is unreal. It will beat you off the line and if the race is short enough it will beat you to the end.

The main problem with the truck is the weight, it's 4700+ pounds. Put it on a diet and lower it and you've got yourself some competition. =)

all right, sounds alright. At least we can sorta agree, but just wait until NISMO gets involved with the dealers and the 2002 MAX get the 3.5L V6. then it will be running 13's from the factory

Hold on a sec here......

The Lightning would never take a Cyclone. The Cyclone was 4X4, and had the engine that came from the Grand National(buick) GNX. Those engines were power houses. The Cyclone and the GNX would do mid 4's from 0-60. Try to hang with that.....

i think the syclone weighs about 1000 less than the lightning. They run comparable times.
