Question about stereo

Hey guys, basic question... my friend has a '98 maxima SE w/out the bose sound but he does have a head unit w/ a cd player and cassette ( the one w/the little rotary ***** on the side controling bass and treble when popped out and balance and fader when pulled). Bottomline, how many watts is this headunit? and how many watts should a aftermarket speaker be to handle the headunit's frequency? Thanx for your time and effort.

if ur gonna get aftermarket speakers make sure to get something that is very efficient like 93 db's that will work well with the stock head unit, and when the money is available upgrade to an external amp, or get a new headunit to provide more power and cleaner sound to the aftermarket speakers.... any q'z?

I have that same Bose head unit in my 96 SE........ THe head unit has no amplification built in........ All the amplifiers are installed next to the speakers..... You would need to get powered speakers...... I like the sound quality of the Bose speakers that come with that premium head unit you described..... The total wattage of all 4 amps is 200 watts.........

looking at my 98 brochure, it says that its a 100 watt(max.) system, so its 25 watts peek, so i would guess its like 12-13 watts rms.

b4 i bought my car with the bose, i test drove one without the bose, and that system was NICE the bass response wasn't quite what the bose puts out but it was more than enough for the car and some reasonably LOUD clear music
