Final Knock Sensor questions (I hope)

Okay I'm finally going to suck it up and buy a knock sensor.

I tried the test that Chilton's gives and get NO resistance.
I'm going to pull off the ks and test the unit itself.

Can i pull it off and the car will still run normally (normally means like it does-with a bad ks)

I would say that the car has the knock sensor for a good reason and if it could run great w/o it, then it wouldnt be there, but if yours just doesnt work period i dont see the harm, just get the new one on there ASAP.

Yes, it can run without the KS

If your knock sensor is bad your car IS already running without a KS.
You will get a check engine light but the car will run fine. Just don't do any hard acceleration and make damn sure you're running high octane fuel. (which you should be doing ANYWAY. 92 Oct. min.)

running without aknock sensor is the same as running with a nonfunctioning knock sensor. in both cases your car is running in "safe" (read slow) mode which minimizes the chance of knock occuring

Agreed, happened with mine, had to drive my car with the Knock Sensor in my hand. The part where the wire connect to the sensor was completely broken. Just drive moderately till fixed. Good Luck!
