arrrg... tranny trouble! help! LONG....

Heya all....

Just a quick synopsis of my recent problems and repairs, and detail with my newest problem.

First off, im a very proud recent owner of a 1995 GXE, 95000kms, auto. Owned the car for close to two months now, this is my first post, but by no means am i a newb =) I check out the forums daily, just haven't had anything too dramatic happen for me to post, until now.

So far, with plenty thanks to MANY of you, i've resolved my CEL problems, replaced knock sensor, rear heated O2 sensor, and got rid of the flashing air bag light problem, thank you!!! =)

now, to my much more serious transmission problem. It's automatic, i know, i know, bummer. Tonight, for the 3rd time, i was driving along the highway at about 120km/h or 75mp/h on cruise control, doing approx 2600rpms. i travel everyday 50kms same highway, same speed. Anyhow, my tranny suddenly FALLS OUT OF GEAR! zoooom! up to 4000rpms, i cancel cruise, lets the car come down to 1500-2000 RPM, and if im lucky, it comes back into gear. tonight was worst, i needed to come to a complete stop to get it back into gear. =( ugggh... scary stuff. anybody with similar problems, enthusiasts who can help diagnose, please, anyone?

On regular roads apart from the highway, the car behaves fine, no jerking, no noises, smooth shifting, entirely normal. i've checked fluids, everything appears normal, except tranny fluid is a little darker than normal i believe (im due for a 96k tune-up) a flush would fix that in a jiffy, but i fear much worse the condition of the transmission.

Cheers all, thanks for your time in reading.

just wait till your differential bearings start to go...

Dont listen to him, the reply was a waste. Is this problem only when you are in cruise control? If thats the case, check your wires. If not I am not sure, make sure the pin in your shifter is installed correctly if you have any tranny work done lately.
Good luck,
Dan

naw, it problem doesn't solely exist in cruise... it occured 1 or more times with my foot on the gas.

no tranny work done at all, however I didn't think of the shifter pin, could very well be, i'll check that out ASAP.

thank yah Dan
cheers.

Is the tranny fluid dirty, or are their little specs in it, if it is the later your tranny is about to go

u know i had my VB mod worked on ..
im boosted now V2
and i have had some weird shifts.
1-2 is fine..neva had a problem.
2-3 RPMS jumps and then kicks into gear.
wont happen if im light on the gas.
but when im heavy or past half throttle it will jump.

i dunno wtf ?

Follow Street Reeper's advice as a starter. Pull out the tranny dipstick while the car is idling in Park. If the level is low you can top it up. If the level is ok but your fluid is not pink or smells burned, your tranny may be in trouble. If you have any service history to find out when the last tranny fluid change was, that would also help.

I think I may be experiencing tranny problems also. Sometimes after coming to a stop it revs when I want it to go forward, as if it where in neutral and then jumps or kicks in ahrd, feels bad, and damaging. Where is this "pin" located? How can you check it? Thanks!!
