How exactly does a Y-Pipe work?

Could somebody explain to me what the purpose of a y-pipe is? Would a y-pipe increase my chances of passing emissions if say I have a CAI? And do the y-pipe brand and the intake brand have to be the same in ur engine?

Ok a Y-pipe is not going to increase your chances of passing emmissons if anything it is going to make it worse. But if you let your car warm up for like 20 mins before emmisons testing you will have no problems. The brands do not have to be the same, it does not matter. And the purpose of it is too increase horsepower. Go to www.motorvate.ca and check out "Y-pipe tech analysis" to find out how it makes more HP. And yeah read the FAQ!
