'98 MAX vs. '98 GT

Alright if I remember correctly I am allowed to post this because it is the weekend...

So I come up to a light the other night and theres this Mustang rumbling at the line. I pull up next to him and glance at him but dont really think anything of it. I was just chillin listening to some Goodie Mob ANyway... GT takes off on green. I hit it, spinning wheels slightly through first gear as he has already got a half a car on me. By the time I get up and going, I am a 1 car back. 1-2 we both chirp, shift gains me a bit....2nd gear pulls alittle more, shift to third(chirp ) BY the end of third I got a bumper on him. 3-4 i pull to where his front was at the back of my front doors...at this point I realize I am doing 100+ and I slam on my brakes.

Overall, I knew beforehand that I could probably take a pre 99 GT but I never got the chance to.

I thought some of you might get a kick out of a Maxima with $300 in go fast mods beating a GT.

BTW we both 5spd and I had my friend in the car. He was by himself.
For those who know Athens...this was on Broad/78 starting at the intersection at Alps heading towards downtown. Ended right past autozone somewhere in the ghetto.

94 GT was the last year of the 5.0... and those ran in the low 15s (5-spd) bone stock. I hear that the 96-98 GT which got the first edition of the 4.6L was crap. I see that your ET is 14.6, so good take!

I see so many Mustang's driving around town where I live (central PA) and it just annoys the h*ll out of me. The majority of them aren't even GT's. I can't wait til I get my Max and race a couple of 'em

last sat night I raced a 2003 Mustang GT 5speed. All I can say is...damn there fast motha F****s. Don't mess with these unless you have some serious work done.

I was at a red light with him behind me. Light goes green and I punch it. He sees me go so he punches it too. By the time I hit 2nd gear, he has already passed into the right lane and was dead even with me. Then by the end of 2nd he was about 2 cars ahead. The race ended at 90 mph about the end of 3rd and he had about 7 cars on me. ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there's a 00 GT around here that runs high 8's in the 1/8. he's got intake/ecu/exhaust and a 100 shot. i'm sure it depends on the driver some too. using his no2, he was losing to my buddy's bone-stock auto 98 Trans Am till about 80 mph. they're fast, yeah, but not ramming-speed fast i'm sure a well-modded max could hold against one. anyhoo, nice kill on the GT

The New Gt's are a Macth for the 5th Gen Maxima's The old ones (before 00) were crap, Our Max can smoke a GT (below 2k), (Wow a forced V8 that thrives off the worst enemy of the Engine HEAT), The new ones are Fast as hell, but they shouldnt beat you by that much, O also, dont mess with the old 5.0 Cobras, Those $hits pack heat

What year are you talking about? My buddy had a stock 91 Cobra that only beat me once at the track when my 95SE was bone stock. He sold it soon thereafter.

any of u guys seen the mustang 04?! yo i heard a lot of good things about that car, like it running 0-60 in 4.8 seconds?! not sure if thats a GT or a Cobra or something but the new mustang's look hot as hell, totally different. I like the last generation too but this new one i saw on t.v. on the news, they were talking about shows and new cars and they brought this car up, anyone got feedback on that car?

There is no such thing as a 91 cobra, I used to be into stangs and had a 93gt. That style stang was good for mid 14's if you got a good one and could drive it.

He should be running high 8's in the 1/8th mile stock.

yeah the new ones look TOTALLY different. I havent heard about times for them but it definitely seems like Ford is getting back on the ball as far as Mustangs. They havent been a true sports car in several years. 2000 and beyond--->FAST AS HELL stock, and with minor mods mid to low 13s is nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeh, I also got smoked by the bullet edition stang one day I was goin like a 100 and then he just blew by me so i just let off. I think its actually 99 and up has 260hp the new cobras have 320hp and those bullets have 275hp alot quicker than the slow years, 96-98 I believe are the slowest.

i think you are pretty accurate. 99 was the first year of 260 but I heard it didnt get to the ground well. the NEW COBRAS, the SCed ones have over 400hp at the crank. they are dynoing about 390 at the wheels stock. I think the Bullets only have 5 more hp than the GT

Actually the '03 SVT Cobra has 390HP and 390ft/lb stock at the flywheel. The #'s quoted by car companies are ALWAYS at the flywheel.

Typical ET/MPH for a well driven Mustang (some will be quicker/slower)

94-95 Mustang GT 5.0 = 15.0s@91mph
94-95 Mustang Cobra 5.0 = 14.7s@95mph
96-98 Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC = 15.0s@91mph
96-98 Mustang Cobra 4.6 DOHC = 13.8s@103mph
99-current Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC = 14.0s@100mph
01 Mustang GT Bullit 4.6 SOHC = 13.9s@100mph
99-01 Mustang Cobra DOHC = 13.5@105mph (many were slower before the "fix")
03 Mustang Cobra DOHC 4.6 SC = 12.8@110mph
03 Mustang Mach I 4.6 DOHC = 13.8s@103mph

Actually the car is underated coming from the factory for insurance purposes. if you talk to anyone who knows anything about the car they will say exactly what i said earlier...that they are dynoing 390 AT THE WHEELS therefore they DEFINITELY have over 400 at the flywheel.

Yep you are correct here. They are "rated" at 400HP at the crank on paper but they dyno 390HP at the wheels and, exactly as you said did not disclose that officially, for insurance purposes.

I think if I was to buy a true sports car, this would make a tough case but I might prefer the Supra TT... dunno... waiting to see what the new Supra will have (if it ever comes out)!

I ment the modded ones that are stick, , But I think the reason I lost against the one I raced is Because my car needs a Major Tune up, Spark Plug Change, Tranny Fluid, Fuel Filter, and other things

Mustang would be easier to hook up...Supra would be more fun IMO
