Maxima ECU for JWT

I have a 1995 SE 5-spd and I was thinking about getting the JWT ECU in time. To start it off I was going to get another ECU off a 1995 SE 5-spd, and send that ECU into JWT, so that I can still drive my car. Then when I get the reprogrammed ECU I could swap it with mine. Is that possible or do I have to send my existing ECU to get reprogrammed from JWT?

If it does not matter, then my second question is, is there anything to look for in an ECU or would getting another 1995 SE 5-spd ECU be fine? Is there anything such as a "good ECU" or "bad ECU"??

Thanks for any advice.

P.S. I have e-mailed JWT about 3 times in the past month and not received a single response regarding all these questions and a lot more. Any idea why?

Re: Maxima ECU for JWT

I have been told by JWT that they don't answer their emails. You really should call for any questions. That said, I think you should definitely call to find out what ecu is compatible before you track one down. THey have told me that my 1995SE was not upgradeable (build may '95) but they still took my ecu and gave me a 1996 instead. Not sure if I believe them because why didn't they just return my OEM ECU instead of accepting it and giving me another? If you send in a 1997+ ecu (by accident or what-have-you), they will return it to you and tell you they can't upgrade it.

I think your best bet is a 1996 ECU, same transmission and same fed/Cali spec. You may or may not get ECU codes though.

1995 was ODBI whereas 96 was ODBII... that's the one difference I can see right off the bat between the two years. I don't know if that affects the ECU but I don't see why they cannot use a 1995.

Is there anyone in particular that you guys talk to at JWT?

Jim Wolf, the man himself or Clark Steppler(?), the guy who does the ECU programming (if he's still there).

While I was trying to locate a 95 ECU a couple weeks ago I called JWT and talked to one of their programmers to figure out what I needed. Basically all you need is a ECU from a 95 5-spd, any configuration of the car will work. I can vouch for this as the ECU I got is from a 95 GXE w/o C&C (so it has a limiter) and my car is an SE, W/ABS, & C&C. . . When I put the ECU in no codes were thrown and the car drove & operated properly. Just need to get it reprogramed now.

This has happened to me as well. If they are not going to respond to emails they should get rid of their email address. Its very poor service and makes me skeptical. We should try calling but still not responding is bad business. Gonna have to call them ..

I can understand why this would be frustrating in dealing with a company. . . But with this sort of issue I think it would be easier to talk to a live person as I am sure questions will come up as this is discussed. I know I only had to make one phone call and everyone was really nice and gave me the information I was looking for. Yes, email is sometimes easier and if someone takes the time to write, they should respond, but I am sure they figure that if it is important enough to you, then you will call them.
