my car is throwing 0304 code, please help

well, i guess this is why i've been gettin crappy gas mileage.. my question is this is the only code that pops up and after i reset it i get the 0505 code again.. but a day later the knock sensor code pops up again.. i got a 97 SE w/ 64k miles on it.. could it be the knock sensor itself or could it be something else..?? my tranny shifts kinda ruff when it's cold and when it's warm it still jerks a little from 1st to 2nd.. could the knock sensor be tripped up by this or could it be something else..?? i know that when i first bought the car i was gettin great mileage but since about 6 months ago it's been crappy.. i dont know whats goin on.. someone help me please..
thanx in advance..
oh yea.. i just did the basic 60k tune up too (spark plugs(NGK Plats), pcv(oem), throttle body cleaning, oil change, tranny flush, power steering flush, front brakes, bled front brake lines)

0304 in my book is cylinder #4 misfire.

Ohhhh 0304 on 'check engine' is Knock Sensor. So thats the problem.

Good work. You can change it and it'll go away. Everything will be peachy

0304 is knock sensor and it sucks, its hard as a ***** to get to but definitely something you can fix on your own especially if you have an intake (cause theres less piping to take out). Its worth it too you'll notice performance gains with a good knock sensor vs a damaged one.

0304 is your knock sensor. the knock sensor error can be a bunch of different things. i'd reset it again and see if it comes back on. if you have a haynes or chilton's manual, use it to check if the sensor is good or bad before you replace it.

Is there any way to check to see if the sensor is bad without actually replacing it?

i reset it yesterday and got the 0505 code after doin so, but today i check it again and i get the same 0304 knock sensor code.. is the knock sensor only tripped by a knock in the engine or could it be tripped by the rough shifting from 1st to 2nd.?? also, do they normally go bad at around 65-70k miles.?? how could i check if the knock sensor has gone bad, cuz i dont wanna spend 100 some odd dollars replacing something that's not broken.. one more thing, what would happen if i just disconnect it.??

thanx..

If you disconnected it, you would probably still get the 0304 Knock Sensor code...The sensor has to be hooke up and working properly if you want to get rid of the CEL

0304 repeatedly is a Knock Sensor malfunction. This is a very common error in 4th generation maximas. Buy the part ($$), and use these instructions (make sure you follow them exactly) to replace the part.
