Buffing: Good or bad?

The paint on my car isnt in the greatest condition. I know it should be repainted but im broke. So my ? is this. I have access to a buffer but i wont to kno if its worth doing or if it will hurt the paint. Any one out there use one? If so with what wax or polish?

My car is a 95. Its not exactly brand new. Over the years swirls and scratches are inevitable

get it professionally detailed. My brother used to be a pro detailer for a dealership and they work magic. They can make some paint thats faded, look nice and shiny. Go to a good reputable detailing shop and get it done. My boss just paid 125 for a full interior/exterior detail on his caddy, and it looks good...

I haven't been impressed at all with detailing shops, but it obviously varies.

To the original poster: You can use the buffer but if it's not RANDOM ORBITAL you ahve to be careful not to burn the paint. The swirls WILL come out with some work. If you don't know what you're doing, just do it by hand with ____100% Cotton____ terry-cloth rags. If you want to go the autozone route, buy McGuires polishes and waxes...they make decent stuff. I use Ardex products, but the polishes from Griots Garage aer also good.

With a little work you will be amazed how much better the car will look...

Re: Buffing: Good or bad?

Ask the body shop that's painting your car what it would cost to wet sand and re shoot the clear coat on the whole car when they are doing the one side.
I have a 95 black max. They have a HARD clear coat and the best fix for the finish is to have the clear coat redone. The paint underneath is likely to be more than fine.
