Fuel pump shot?

Fuel pump shot?
In the Haynes manual, to relieve the fuel pressure, I believe one of the first things you do is remove the fuse for the fuel pump and start the car. It is supposed to die after a few seconds. HA! My doesn't. It continues to run for about 5 minutes before finally giving up.
So my questions are:
1. is the fuel pump shot?
2. what compenents are between the fuel pump and fuel filter other than the fuel regulator?
3. what is wrong with my car?

Your car's fine. I bet when you did this, the car was very warm (been running for a while befroe you stopped to change the filter,) and at a low idle. Therefore, it didn't need much feul to stay alive while the pressure, and hence feul, was relieved inside the feul lines. Same thing happened to me but it was like 3 minutes before the car died.
