Grammer much!

Try to find a used one in a junk yard if $$$$ is your main concern.

www.car-part.com can genrally find you a few VLSD trannies. Only problem is most places want your soul for the thing. Anyways, good luck finding one.

I would install a limited slip unit from a 2001 Maxima, like this one I found on www.car-part.com:

2001 Nissan Maxima
Transmission
M.T., lckng diff (20th anniversary edition)
L2157
$700.07
Brims Imports Auto USA-OH(Kenton)
brim_imports@hotmail.com
1-419-675-1099

$700 is a steal for this transmission.

you missed a good deal on an Exedy Stage 1 Performance... but if you wait a bit, PJ (maxxtuningUSA) might come up with another deal on other clutches.

ACT seems to be the best bang for the buck from what I hear. I'm running a Centerforce Dual friction which works just fine for me. If you wanna go insane, Clutchmasters sells some pretty bada$$ clutches. There's also Exedy and Rev Lock but I have no info on those.

Ok, stooopid question, but:

Will the 2001 tranny bolt up to a 1995? (Same block, right? - I'm not sure on this).

Also, when did you find this specific tranny?
Know if it's still available? (it wasn't returned in the search results @ www.car-part.com, although they had one listed at $1,000)

Thanks.

Re: tranny.. what would you do??? -_-a

All of the symptoms you list here sound just like a bad clutch and binding release bearing. Is your clutch slipping to cause jerking around? Do the gears grind all the time from 2-3?
When shifting from 2-3 is the clutch all the way in or are you
quick shifting?

If you do in fact have bad synchro's causing your gears to grind you can get another 25-30k out of your tranny by relacing the gear oil with 30 to 50 weight motor oil and adding some of that teflon stuff.
This is an old BMW tranny fix....

Whatever you do... don't trade in your max. Sell it to one of the many MAX fanatics privately if you aren't going to keep it.

yes its slipping... yes it grinds from 2-3... sometimes i quickshift and i learned that i didnt have to step on my clutch all the way to shift gears..... would it be expensive to replace sincros? where would i get them? is there any specific brand thats good?

Ugh. Me too. I feel your pain.

To add insult to injury, one of my CV boots just started failing, so I'll be $replacing$ that, too. Too bad - so sad.

No love from the Max these days. . .she's being a total be-otch.

Think Kev made a typo on that price. Brims has had that tranny at $1000.07 for many months now. They'll come down to $900ish but that was as low as they would take.

As for bolting up on a 4th gen I'll let you know...

maxima.org member "jhans114" aka: www.ispmotorsports.com had a few 4th Gen ACT Street clutches on a closeout special not too long ago pretty cheap.

Check with him. I don't remember the exact price, but it was waaaay cheaper than I've seen them anywhere else. Price was close to his cost.

Good luck.
