black gooey stuff that comes from your taillights

I just did the red/clear tailights mod on my 98 maxima, everything went OK but the black gooey adhesive thing is all over my taillights. What can I use to remove it?

you can buy Goo Gone at any hardware store. but when i did my tail lights, i just used a wet cloth soaked in hot water, it took a while to get it all off but it worked. also if you use Goo Gone be sure not to get it on your paint or you might see it start to fade away.

Yup. Good stuff for removing the black gunk. Goo Gone is a yellowish liquid. Here is a link to pics of packaging so you'll recognize it on a shelf:

DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT use rubbing alcohol on warm lenses...the quick cooling effect will immediately crack teh seams of the lense quick fast and in a MF hurry...

trust me I know alcohol works but plan on replacing the lenses...I learned the hard way.
