Greetings:

I have always filled and maintained my oil on my vehicles at the F line as measured with the engine COLD. I was reading in my manual for my 95 Max that it is recommended that the reading be taken after the engine is warmed to operating temp and then has cooled down for at least 5 minutes. When I did this, the oil was about 1/8" to 1/4" above the F line. I was wondering how you guys are filling your engines/reading your dipsticks and if you think that based on my warm reading, I had enough oil in the engine to cause damage (rear seal, frothing, etc.).

Thanks for any input.

When I change my oil I just put in 4 quarts and that is in conjuction with a filter replacement. It always comes in between the cold/hot marks which is sufficient. Rember that oil expands as it gets hotter, hence the cold/hot lines on the dipstick. I,m sure with 4 quarts you,d save money also unless you burn oil.
