Sumitomo vs. Continental

I just purchased 18x7.5 tantrums for my 97 maxima. Now I need to get tires and I cant decide if I want summer or all season. I am leaning more towards all-season becasue I live in Ky. I have done research at tirerack and the best two all season tires I could find were the Sumitomo HTR+ and the Continental ContiExtremeContact. If anyone has experience with these tires please help.

Well my friend has the conti's on his SVTF, and they stick pretty damn good.

Also, everyone and their mother swears by Sumi's HTRs, so i really dont know man...

Go with the cheaper one i guess...

i had to pick between the same two and i went with the Sumitomo HTR+ for the simple reasoon that they have been out longer and i have not seen one complaint about them yet. Which is yet to be seen for the Conti.

I also went with the the htr+ because of the praise that they got here on the org. I have been happy with them and have had no complaints with them. However, I have heard of them getting worn out prematurely in the middle of the tires. Right now, I have about 8000 miles on them and have not seen this problem on my set.

What does he hate about them? I have not seen any other tire get as many positive reviews as this one on tire rack and it is the top rated High Performance All Season tire. From the reviews I notice that the sidewall is on the soft side which gives them a good ride but at the expense of some steering response. Even with the soft sidewall the steering response is rated very high on tire rack. Is this simply the wrong type of tire for him, or is there something wrong with them?

EDIT Does he have a different model of contis on his bimmer? If he does I don't see how it is comparable to these.

My H&Rs are a little stiffer than I like so I was considering the Conti Extreame contact to soften the ride a bit while still having decent performance. I have dedicated winter/snow tires but it seems all the summer only tires have a very stiff sidewall

The Bmer comes with Conti's but they aren't the Extreme Contacts. Our 330 came with Conti's and I also hated them. We now run the Bridgestone S-03's on the Bmer - WOW nice tire.

Continential just released the Extreme Contact and as you can see no other tire rates as well as that tire does in the High Performance All Season catagory. The review/feedback is all excellent as well. Looks like Continential got their act together. I might be putting them on my 17's this year as well being my SP8000 are just about shot.

Wise move!
