hey, im about to get my first maxima this weekend if not sooner. it's a 1997 GXE, 5-speed, white/black leather... loving it already. the only thing i dont like about it is that it has gold trimmings and has those lil bumper protector things along the side of the doors. i want to take those off but im sure that there's dirt under there and it's goin to scratch up the paint. does anyone kno how to take them off safely without scratching the paint and if it does, any good ways to fix up the scratches? i kno its a real minor thing but its goin to bug the hell out of me. also, does anyone kno were i could get chrome or white door handles? i plan on taking all the other badges off. thanks!

After you remove the door guards, there may be some adhesives left on the surface. I believe some adhesive remover (for cars) can do the job in removing them.

 

Main reason being is that the door guards are held in by clips which plug into the doors,so another words you will have like 3 1/2 inch holes in each of your doors if you take them off.You would have to have all 12 holes fild in and then the 4 doors repainted all in all costing ruffly $1200ish.So ask your self is it really worth it? As for door handels Nissan sells them for $89 a piece {chrome},but alternatively you could by them from a junk yard but with my experience of trying to get them at a junkyard,they will not sell just the door handels if the door is not damaged.What you could do is paint your door handels white,which in my opinion whould look awfull on a black max.Have fun!

 

when i went to go see the car over hte past weekend, i didnt notice any holes. it looked like it was just glued on with some adhesive. so i have to find and adhesive remover (will it damage the car's paint?). what do you think if i were to paint my door handles? will it look alright since my car(soon to be) is white? arent the handles already flush all around, meaning the extra paint might make it not close right? thanks

 

to be honest with you I have never taken the door guards on my Max but on my Moms Volvo 850 the a door guard began to fall off so I removed it and there were clips holding it in.I believe the same holds true on the Max.I don't think they would have just glued them on there,it just does not seem right to do. As for painting the handels just sand the paint off the handels if you are really concerned with it being flush.

Just something to think about: those door gaurds aren't too annoyinh, and to me I'd rather save some door dings over the extra looks. The door guards are pretty sturdy, and won't always prevent door dings, but every bit helps.

hay emax thats a volvo damn it, the do everything better then everyone else for the safty thing. Those damn things are like tanks , well the old ones were. hehe but if your max is white what color are your door handles black? if they are black paint them. but put some primer on first. it will still be flush witht he door, just do go nuts with the paint. use nice easy sprays. take your time with it , dont rush by spraying a sh*t load of paint at once, it wont look right imho

i read over the whole post again and wanted to make sure we were all talkin about the same door guards. im talkin bout the small guard that goes long the edge of the door. its barely 1 cm thick and wraps around the side of the door.

The little thing of colored tape that runs from the rear bumper up to the front bumper. Door guards are the plastic things that are on the doors about 8 inches from the bottum of the doors and measuring about a inch tall.

 

No, who are they? I wish I had more time to meet other max owners. I hardly have time to do anything except make comments on here.

im not sure what it's called, but im talkin about those little cheap things which act as door guards. they are about a foot long and wrap around the edge of the door(vertically). they dont come from the factory but is a minor add-on for cosmetic saftey you can get almost anywhere. i think i kno what you're talkin about but i apologize for making my original post unclear.

IKON is just a local racing team like Team Hyper and TKR. the reason i asked was because i've only seen one soupped up white maxima around houston and it belonged to this guy from team IKON. Team IKON was at Import Expo, if you went, but im not sure if the maxima was there. maybe i'll see you in the fall or sometime sooner. i'll be heading up to UH this fall as a freshman.

does anyone kno what kind of adhesive remover there is that i can use on my car exterior without ruining the paint job? thanks!
