Bad clutch or bad install ??

In my 96 SE the OE clutch lasted 140 K miles. it always engaged firm untill the day it started slipping under heavy torque.

So I bought an aftermarket clutch and after 5K miles it just plain sucks. The clutch is a "Valeo" or "coscom".

The clutch feels like it engages at a different pedal height each time I shift and it is a very mushy gradual engage.

My question is this : is the cheap clutch the problem or is it possibly a bad install?

any opinions?

ps: my clutch hydraulics are fine and have no leaks or lost fluid

Is this valeo the ebay clutch selling for $130? Could be a matter of things. Not broken in properly, bad clutch, or just defective.. Did it come with a warranty? My ACT clutch gave out after 3-4 weeks. I broke it in for 800 miles and never abused it. The organic disk just deteriated on one side/ like the material got shredded up. I will post pics soon to show all you guys... ACT better give me a new clutch for free! My stock one never did this.

Why did you go with that namebrand clutch? I never even heard of it. I know excedy and act have proven themselves to be excellent clutches. I think you should have gone with at least the excedy.
