0407: crankshaft position sensor? what to do?

this is what i got when i self diagnosed my car. 0407: crankshaft position sensor. what does this mean and what do i have to do to fix the problem. i got the engine light when i had a really tough tiime starting my car. I still have a tough time starting my car. What is the car doing?

My friend had that problem too. There is a sensor right near the lower pully of your engine, it is near the oil filter. He cleaned it off because it was full of grime, prolly from the road and dust. It worked and he has no problem since.

Determine if it is the POS or REF sensor (Hayne's manual will tell you).

Remove the sensor from the transmission bell housing, clean the tip with a clean cloth or paper towel, re-install sensor, reset ECU & start the car. Observe start performance.

If that doesn't work, you need to test the sensor using a digital multimeter. If you're unfamiliar with this procedure, again, a Hayne's manual will explain it rather well.

Crankshaft Position Sensor tells your computer when your piston is at TDC so it knows when to fire.
