Replace the hood lifters. Go to outozone and buy them for about 20 bucks a peace. Or try ebay.

i dunno if you'd want to wait, but in the next few weeks i'll be starting a group deal on Strong Arm ones. i'm still gonna work out pricing but will only do it if i get enough interest. if someone can find out the average price on these shipped i'd appreciate it cuz it would help me negotiate pricing with my source.

If you don't want to deal with the minimal hassle that lifetime replacement hood struts will get you, you can go the blizz route...

old broomstick handle though I haven't found a good way to keep it in the car with me, which might hurt me (and/or my head trying to keep the hood up) in the future. Good around the garage tho

Someone earlier had said that they bought the 15 dollar ones or whatever from autozone and they stopped working within a year. Does any one know the durabiltiy of the Strong arm ones? If not, I would just lean more towards getting stock ones again.

This works:

It's my girl's patented super strut (i.e. toy rake)!

p.s. I discovered in my extended warranty that hood struts are covered so no more rake.

DUCK!

My hood struts failed too. You can use an old broom handle to hold the hood up from now on, or,

Prop hood open, remove struts one a time to see which one failed, and replace the bad one. It is likely they both have some pressure left, but one will likely be noticeably weaker.

Or, replace them as a set for twice the price. They are about $29 each. Napa or Schucks should have them in stock, or be able to order them.

I'm interested in the strong arm group buy.

Mine are bad and i dont normally carry a broomstick with me. I just tell who ever is riding in my car at the time to hold them up.

This has turned into a fairly amusing thread...thanks for all the advice.
I too am interested in the group deal...I can use the broom stick method for now, but would really like a real fix. Please post to this thread or PM me when the group deal works out. Thanks again everyone.

I got the StrongArms and they failed within 3 months. Good thing I can exchange them for new ones. Just FYI.

I to have a 99gxe and one went out last year when i had about 35,000 miles. The dealer said they had to be replaced in pairs. They were covered under 36000 mile warranty so I did not have to pay!

Which hood struts have lifetime warranty? About how much are they? and where do you guys buy them from?

My hood struts are messed up and they don't stay up anymore.

I use channel locks, just clamp them on the hood strut and presto. If I could get into my car domain sight (I am at my girl friends and do not have my password ) or if I could search for "hacked air box" I would be able to find a picture.

PartsAmerica.com has them for about $35/pair + about $5 s/h so it'll be about $40 shipped (Mine exact total was $40.02, but I didn't order yet). They give lifetime warranty I think. Someone want to confirm that?

go to http://www.partsamerica.com and search for "4524" and you'll see the Strong Arm link there. Direct linking doesnt work for some reason...

I ended up using a locking wrench. It takes MUCH less room in the car and if I need them for any reason, I got them. They cost $1 at the dollar store! They may not be the best quality, but they do their job .
