damn whistle at 2k rpm from popcharger...
damn whistle at 2k rpm from popcharger...
does everyone has this whistle at about 2k rpm under light acceleration? i have the stillen filter with frankencar midpipe and i was wondering if the injen makes the same whistle also. it was ok at first, but it really gets annoying sometimes. i was thinking that maybe because the injen filter would be a lot lower, maybe it wouldn't be as loud from the driver's seat.

i got a wepon r intake piping with a dinan(BMW performance company)high flow filter for a '95 328i. and the whistle is pretty loud, i can hear it over a normal conversation going on with all windows up! i like it i have had some people ask if i was turbo! it is a good feeling!
I don't think anything you can do to the intake will get rid of the whistle except for getting longer piping or a more restrictive intake. I'm pretty sure it originates from the butterfly valve in the throttle body, as you apply light throttle the air whistles when trying to squeeze around the slightly open valve.
Yeah you're lucky you dont have a Bimmer. The whistle that comes with the intakes that I have heard sounds aweful. Our whistle however is AWESOME. But BMW makes some sort of thingy that cuts down on the whistle a bunch. I dont know if they make something like that for the MAX. Research it and find out what it is. Maybe you can make a custom application.

Yea don't worry mang...I have the exact same problem: a whistle around 2k under light acceleration. I was buggin about it too but people here said it was okay and normal. I think the theory about it being the butterfly valve is probably correct. The way it changes pitch or disappears proportionally with the throttle makes it seem like thats the case. If it was something in the pipe or the cone I would think it wouldn't be so sensitive and reactive to the throttle.
I had the same problem, and it does sound cool for a while, but managed to get the sound to go away by adjusting the throttle body bypass valve. Just twist it clockwise with your finger, or you might need to use a flat head screw driver. Good luck.

If you all try adjusting the bypass valve on the throttle body you'll be able to change idle and part-throttle sound characteristics of the intake. Atleast with my injen I can make it whistle or not, and make it quiet at idle, or make it sound like a wooshing/sucking sound at idle. By-product is that it will change your idle rpm slightly...no big deal though.

of course, I meant that I get the whistle in addition to the roar.
