just got a used tranny

it's from a '97 i30 I found from car-part.com and it had only 2k which is unbelievably low....but now i'm a little worried since some prevous thread said all i30s come with locking tranny which would not be a direct swap for my '97gxe. How can i tell if it's locking or non locking. If it' locking what part and it's part# do i need, how much and cheapest place to get from. Thanks for any info.

All I30s are not lsd. All of the t models have lsd, the other models might have it. You will have to check the plate on the firewall. If the tran code ends in V , it's lsd.

The LSD is easy to differentiate because of the large difference in the seal size for the shaft from drivers to passenger side. The drivers side is very, very noticibly larger that the pass side on the LSD.

I mean very very large. Like 3". On the open diff its like 2" on one side and 1.5 on the other. There is a difference but nowhere near like the LSD.
