What years were the 5 speeds the same?

Lost 3rd gear last night in my 96 SE and looking for a used replacement 5 spd transmission. I found one that is out of a 2000 that they claim is the same but wanted to make sure.

What years 5 spd would fit my 96?

Thanks,

Doug D

Gee.....My max has 112k on it. Stock tranny and clutch. It's starting to slip but I can say I frequently beat on it. I think its a pretty good tranny if you ask me.

for doug.
Question: Will ONLY 95-99 maxima trannies will fit into a 95-99 maxima? There are NO other manual transmissions that will directly fit as a replacement?

I know that the 2000-2001 tranny will fit on our cars, but you will need two new axels...the tranny and the axles are really rare items to find...I remember talking to a tech at nissan, prob knew nothing, and he said it will fit, and suppose to have a stronger 2nd gear

I went through the same thing as you and wound up gettin a 96 I-30 LSD trans...one different axle and hella good launches

Matty, thanks for the info. If I get a 2000 tranny what axles do I need? Both off a 2000?

Thanks,
