I don't think i need to go that fast but i pushed my Max to over 130 MPH and still was pulling, one of these days i'll push it to the limit to see.

I have a 96' maxima SE 5spd, stock the car will pull 142mph acording to a MOtor Trend magazine which had an artical about "bang for the buck II." I have lots of mods done to the car and have seen the needle glued to the 140 mark several times, i pressume that i am traveling faster then 142 because of the better breathing. My old car was a 96'maxima GXE 5spd which had a govener on it. Nissan put these on set to 118mph because the tires put on the cars couldn't handle the extra speed.
I am wondering do the 97- 99 models also have a speed limiter on them? Is there a way to by-pass that?

140ish with my wife and some luggage in the trunk. Twice I've gotten up to that speed. On my way to Colorado from Washington, you gotta travel through Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Wyoming has long, straight roads with lil' to no cops(so I thought untill I got my first f*#@in ticket) Anyway, it is possible in an auto.

after grag racing i was on my way home from wisconsin. shot by the wisconsin state trooper doing 138 mph with three passangers and myself in the car. the cop was pissed, i guess i woke his as* up. intake and exhaust only at the time. supercharged now,but only been able to hit 125 mph so far. by the way sill running on stock tires for now.

Sorry, the laws of physics come into play here. With the stock ~ 190 hp the 4th gen will go 140 +- a few. It is drag limited and only more hp will push is faster, much more hp. Since the drag increase is not linear the hp need is exponential(more or less). To get from 140 to 160 you will need to up the hp to about 300 give or take. Look at the tp speed chart of all production cars. Even the 99 SVT Cobra tested by CD did 149. Gearing is a good part of it but the Maxima 5 speed is optimally geared. The Camaro SS and Firebird WS6 with over 325 hp will break 160 and do low 13's, that is fast and it will take that kind of Hp to get over 160. Maybe that speedo needed to be calibrated.

the ticket way for about $180/$190. got tit down to $120 i think and got it taken off my record. by the way i way driving on a speeding ticket at the time. that one way for 85 mph in a 30mph zone. got that thrown out though.

every time the speed of an object doubles then the resistence of the wind is 4 times that. The theory that a maxima would hit 160 would be only possible with say a supercharger or something generating massive HP.

You will never see 160mph in a 5spd, main reason, your GEARING won't allow it! Plus without a SC you won't touch above 150 at the most.

ok, i dont get whats wrong with you people, i drive a 95 maxima se 5spd, and my speedo goes past 140mph on a usual basis (estimated 150+), what is the big deal about going 140? i live in the US, but i'm europe, most cars over there dont have v6's and most of them top 140mph.

oh yeah, and my maxima is bone stock, all i have is a sway bar, i'm gonna try to get a electronic speedo to see what exactly the speed is but i know i can go nearly 150mph.

I think it is imposible to do 160 without boost or nos . I did about 137 and my 5th gear was almost red lining ,it was at about 6400. Unless you add another gear it isnt happing, esspesialy with the parts you have. Maybe your gages need to be calaberated.

To the guy that thinks he did 160....look at my sig, YES I've done 140 but the pic in my sig started with both needles at 0, its not that hard to put them where ever you want...

I've done 130mph+ on my 95 Maxima GXE Auto. No limiter from what I've seen. I wish I could do 160mph. After my Max starts passing 100 mph, I don't look at the speedo anymore. To scared.

Maxspeed, your clutch is DEFINITELY slipping. 137 mph in a 95-99 5 speed Max should be in the neighborhood of 5800 rpm.

I have a 95 maxima se auto, with 60k miles and not tune up (tune up at 60k that is) yet. No mods either. The most I got when driving alone was 135mph and it was still going up. The most I got when driving with 2 more passengers and some bags in the trunk was 125mph.

you can check out my car domain to the pics of when i was racing a WRX in PA. it was almost a year ago now. i had the needle pegged and the RPMs were still climbing. i have checked the speedo for its accuracy before, so it is not off. the trans is built and geared.

I think my clutch was slipping and it could of ben more than 137 but i kinda stopped looking after, I got my act stage 1 in now but havn't tryed top speed yet . BUT THE GUY THAT SAID HE PULLED 160 IS FULL OF ****.

just intake and sprint springs i got to 143-145 ish... took me forever though at 3:00am on i-40. with y-pipe and a 75 shot just spraying 4th and 5th gear i would like to see if a can reach 150..??? what do you think???

I got my '97 SE Auto up to 130 on the highway with three kids in the car...I still had more left in the car too! P.S. I wish I had a 5spd

streetmax be careful doing those speeds with 3 kids in car. its dangerous by yourself nevermind 3 kids. i buried mine at 140+ (5 speed) felt like plenty more to go in my book. but in my friends 95 zr1 hit 172 and plenty more to go got scary at that speed. but remember in a car like the zr1 you get at those speeds alot more quicker trusyt me on that. probably hit 172 in shorter time than my maxima did 140+

turn off O/D, it will give you enough power to get to 140



So not only where oyu going that fast with curves, you were going that fast with other cars on the road, and close enough that they could pay for your stupidity. I've gone 100+ more times than i can count, but either i'm the only one in the car or the person(s) in the car with me is well aware of what i'm going to do, and has the option of having me not go that fast. And regardless of who is in the car with me, no matter what, i make sure i'm the only car on the road. I'm the only one to blame if something goes wrong, i accept the risks, and so the people that want me to do something like that. However, i would never think of putting myself in a situation where another person's life would be affected because of something (unnecessarily stupid) that i decided to do.

i have a 5 speed 97 max with a few bolt ons, and fastest i have ever went was 125, obviously could have went faster but didnt have a lot of roard room and i was scared...garden state parkway is PERFECT for me to hit 140+ but the cops scare me
