O.K., so it was at an autocross, but my old ’95 Maxima still turned a quicker time (raw, not corrected) than these:

So don’t let anyone tell you that the Maxima is not competitive on the autocross track. I got second place in STS class, only 0.288 seconds behind a GS-R.

Maybe next month I will be able to run with you guys. I will be in an awefull class, but I still have some tread in my Yokohama's that are mounted on my steel wheels. WTF it will be fun.

 

Hey Matt, Sorry you couldn't hang around longer to catch a ride. I didn't figure you would be able to stay too long since you had the youngun out in the cold!

You don't know how many times people have been like, "Holy ****, are you NOS, Turbo, Motorswap." They have a heart attack when I tell them my engine is relatively stock.

I've taken auto Z28's and S2000's to name some of my better kills. To date I've only lost once and it was to a motorcycle. I ran against a GSR once on the FWY when I was BONE stock, and we kept trading off victories, but in total I think I pulled on him once or twice more. We ran about 10 times from 80-120ish. Every once in a while he'd be going that prefect speed to dump into that vtec band. Then again, in my area there aren't too many fast cars.

 

Yeah, it really surprises them to hear the family grocery-getter when you give it WOT with a CAI and Greddy cat-back. I must have had a dozen people come up to me after a run, asking in amazement what I had done to it!

 

Keith, I think I talked to the same guy, he's from BR and goes to LSU. He is pictured in the novice class winners.

 

Congrats Keith! Darn it, I wish I could have make it out there. The next time I got to go see it. I would like to try to compete, but my driver skills still need a lot of improvements.


Matt: I saw your name on the list of Cheston UPRD ECU order. You getting one? I'm going to get one too! I can't wait. The UPRD ECU gives us like what...20-25hp.? Not too bad for $425!

 

I have a 98 and can not use the EPRD ECU. I asked Cheston to rempve my name a while ago

That's what I thought when I saw your name. I said to myself, "wait, doesn't Matt got a '98, I thought it's only for '95-'97." Oh well, I'm getting one.

 

Yeah Matt, that is the guy pictured in the Novice winners. He's cool. His Maxima is stock, but has been wanting to mod it. (Another potential lost soul).

Michael, don't worry if your driving skills are not as sharp as you would like. This is the perfect opportunity to learn your and your car's limitations on a closed course. If you make a mistake, about the worst that can happen is that you may have to buff out some rubber cone marks. BTW, the Delta Region SCCA is having a novice drivers school on March 9 and 10. I went to it last year and HIGHLY recommend it.

Sorry, I didn't see your post. It cost $25 for four runs. It's usually a little cheaper at the Naval Air Station; they get the runway for free.

Yeah, I have an auto and anti-lock brakes. I usually put my a/t in 2nd at the start. We never see more than about 50-60 mph and it down-shifts quicker to first.

 

Keith: Well, I never done anything close to autocrossing. So, I just don't want to look like a fool out there. However, knowing you, I got someone with experience to help. First thing first, I would like to go watch/experience a autocross event. Then, we'll see.

And the other Maxima driver you saw there, did you told him to join this board?

I'll be happy to help, but I'm no expert. The half dozen autocrosses I've been in have given me just enough experience to make me dangerous.

If you come out for the February 11 event, come early enough to walk the course with the real experts that conduct the novice walk-through. I usually try to be there around 9:00 a.m.
