Any Previous 3rd Gen Owners - Read
Wudup fellas. I've got a 3rd gen right now. I'm trying to sell it for a '97-99 SE. If any of you have gone from the same thing....tell me what you miss from your 3rd gen but absolutley LOVE from your 4th gen.

I went from an auto VG to an auto VQ and currently still have my VG (Selling it).
The VQ is a totally different car, not built as solidly as the 3rg gen but the pros outweighed the cons. It was getting up in miles anyway and I felt it was time to move on.

I had a 5spd VE and went to a 5spd VQ. I enjoyed the 3rd Gen more than my current I30. HP was the same. VQ has more torque. My 3rd Gen never had any rattles even when it was lowered. My I30 rattles a bit and it's still on stock suspension. The independent rear suspension was awesome. Luckily, I have LSD on both. The styling is kinda similar, but the 3rd Gen looked better.
Just my opinion.

i had a 90se and i would stil be driving it today if i could have 2 cars. the 3rd gens were much more solidly built, 13yrs old and never any creeks or rattles, i had to replace the fuel injectors one time after 11yrs, my 99se has more rattles and creeks than i know what to do with and already ive had to replace the cruise control computer $338. i do like the 4th gen but it has to prove itself like my trusty old 3rd gen. i would recommend a 4th gen, just get a 5-speed. if my tranny ever blows out thats what ill do
also the 4th gen auto tranny is a piece of **** compared to my 3rd gen auto.

I've told my friend (his wife bought my Bluey..'91 GXE) that I wish I held on to it. Seats were far more comfortable, better plastic, right leg didn't rub against the dash, tilting headrest, wasn't as road crown sensitive (I didn't like driving on I-80 in Pennsylvania last month--the road crown would force me to steer in the opposite direction of the turn momentarily before actually making the turn), no extra noise when hitting bumps and had fuzzy trim on the pillars. Though, the VQ does make a tasty sound when it's revving and it is 6 years newer than my old '91. I think the best thing, other than the engine, would be having a new blank canvas for potential mods...and I'm on my way for solving this no-tilting headrests bit--bought some 3rd gens and just need to do some altering of my '97's covers so they fit properly.

My first car was an 89 SE Maxima manual transmission. It was just about fully loaded. I bought it with 140k miles and sold it with 190k miles. I loved it. Now I have a 97 SE Maxima with manual transmission. It's got everything the 89 had except leather. The 4th gen looks MUCH nicer inside and out. I feel it has more potential and is more reliable, but this is certainly due to the age difference (97 has 90k miles). If I had to choose I would take the 4th gen over a 3rd gen no questions asked, even though I LOVE the 3rd gen. My plan is to own at least one maxima from every generation =)
