Oxygen Sensor Help
Oxygen Sensor Help
I went to Autozone to have my engine light checked. It displayed a code... P0135..Bank number 1 (Upstream oxygen sensor heater fault(right bank) ). I bought the sensor from Autozone and installed it in the sensor directly upfront between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. I returned to Autozone to return the oxygen sensor tool kit I borrowed and had my computer rechecked to see if the install was correct. The computer displayed 2 codes...P0135 and P0155(upstream oxygen sensor heater or circuit fault (left bank) ).
My question is which oxygen sensor is #1 and right bank? Did I change the correct sensor..code P0135? When I was below the car, the first sensor upstream is on the left side of the exhaust, the second one is a little ways back on the right hand side, then there is the downstream one all the way in the back.

Re: Oxygen Sensor Help
The right bank is the one close to the firewall. The left bank is the one at the front of the vehicle. There are 2 exhaust manifolds so I cannot tell which one you replaced. It sounds like you replaced the left sensor with a defective or incorrect sensor which triggered the second code.

Thanks for the information. I replaced the oxygen sensor at the front of the vehicle which I see now is incorrect. One would figure the front sensor would be #1. The sensor I bought from Autozone is a universal bosch. The sensor had four wires...2 blacks, 1 white, and a blue. My original sensor had three...2 whites and a black. I spliced three of the wires from the universal sensor and connected them to the cable from the old sensor. I think this is what triggered the second code.
Its a good thing I didn't throw the original sensor away because it is good. Tomorrow I am going under the car again and replace the upfront sensor that was accidentally replaced then change the correct one on the right bank with the universal sensor I picked up. I am regretting picking this universal sensor up from Autozone with four wires. I payed $50 and should have just ordered it from www.oxygensensor.com
Thanks
re: oxygensensor.com
Not sure if oxygensensor.com sells OEM bosch units.
Got mine at http://www.thepartsbin.com/
Original replacements WITH harness $66 each

I bought the sensor from oxygensensor.com, spliced on the original connector from the old sensor, I was getting the same code p0135 several times.. It is fine now..you save 25 bucks splicing on the old connector, however you cannot solder the wires on the sensors, they appear to be stainless steel wire and does not take lead solder,,,but the crimp connectors seam to work okay,, the sensor has been in the car for 1 month now with no more codes.
the original sensor had over 90k on it also I bought both and am swapping the front sensor,,, bothe sensors were $ 30 a piece....
Oxygensensor.com told me that these are made by denso whish are as good or better than Bosch.
