anti-theft system
anti-theft system
My anti-theft system magically stopped working. I thought it could have been a fuse or relay problem so I tested everything and they turned out ok. My second thought was that there was a problem with the remote not sending the message to arm the alarm, so as i was trying to reprogram a different remote, the alarm went off and i could not start my car. I ended up disconnecting the battery to get my car started, but my alarm still does not work.....any suggestions?????
I would double-check all the fuses and relays first thing. Next, I would sit in the car, lock all doors with remote (this should arm the system). At this time, watch the security light. If it holds steady (no blinking) for about 30 seconds, it will then be armed when it starts to blink again. Another way to tell if the security system is working is by watching the security light when you first unlock the car. When you use the remote to unlock the car, sit in the drivers seat and shut the door. The light should not be blinking, and then it will resume blinking if you open the door back up, sort of as a reminder to arm the system as you exit the car.
If the system does not behave as described, chances are there is an open circuit somewhere. Start by checking the hood switch--make sure that it is not obstructed and has free movement (also check for damaged wires). The button is located just above the driver headlight and looks a bit like an accordion bellows. Next, check each button on the doors. Push the button in and out and make sure that the interior dome light works with each button. Last, check that the trunk light comes on when the trunk is open. If not, you may have a burned-out bulb, or the trunk depressor switch may be stuck or broken. If the latter is the case, the alarm will not arm.
If you have checked the fuses and all the switches, check wiring. You may also want to check the alarm's Central Unit, located in the trunk behind the paneling at the rear (by the jack).
Good luck, let us know what you find/don't find.
