I wanted to get 255 40 17's on the rear, and 235 50 17's on the rear. Is that the set up that you had? You wrote that it worked, did it rub at all?

What would be the purpose of putting wider tires on the rear? You want wider tires on the drive wheels which are up front.

A friend of mine mas a set of MAE whells off an Audi 1.8T. He had them on his Audi, but they rubbed a little when he had passengers in the back. I can get them for a real good price (if they fit). His Audi was a quattro, and that is what was reccommeded for him.
Check them out...

255 in rear

the 255 will rub in the rear with passengers in the car. i want to put on wider tires all around. it just makes the car more stable. i also want the big beefy look of having really wide tires. i do have traction troubles so the wider the better. i had read somewhere in some magazine that they put on a 275 or 295 on the rear. cause if that is possible i will put them on. it looks like there is enough more there. would like to know for sure. later.

I seem to be the only person having rubbing problems, currently I am using 235/45/17 all around. With Intrax springs I tend to rub in the back, probably doesn't help that I have a pretty heavy sub box and spare tire in the trunk though. Im thinking about cutting a coil in the front though, hopefully it'll put more weight on the front of the car rather than the rear.

I have 17x9.5 rims all around. I was running 265/40/17's, but I just got a new set of tires and decided to go with 255/40/17's. I would say on the rear you can go 10" easy. mine are just tucked in a little. with my 265 kumho 712's the sidewall was flush. with my 255 kumho 711's they taper in a bit. i like the pulled in look. from what i heard, that's how all the japanese cars go. wide tires and smaller tires. just the opposite of here...over here everyone tries to fit the biggest tires they can. a friend of a friend had 11" wide rims and stretched a set of 225's on them. that's extreme, but i heard they looked sick! so i would say on the rear, go 10" with a tire width of 245 to 275, depending on the look you want. on the front...my 9.5's stick out every so slightly. i would reccomend 9" with tires from 215 to 255's. you need to get the right offset though. to be honest, i don't know the offset of my rims. on the rear, you also need to watch the clearance between inside of the rim and the springs. i had rubbing with my rims and spring when the suspension lifted. once i lowered my car it wasn't a problem.

also depends on the tire type and brand you use, as well as the offset I'm sure you guys know

I didnt rub very badly with my 245/40-18s 35mm offset Sumitomo HTRZIIS while with my 245/35-19s 35 mm offset I rub like nuts- reason why? my Potenza S02s have the rim protector and they have a very wide shoulder

Pirellis tend to be more square and less likely to rub I think Nittos are good too

also the only reason why I rubbed was because I was tucking- how low are you??

Brian V ran 255/45-17s i think and didnt rub, he was dropped on sprints

I have 265/35 on the rear. I rolled the rear fenders and have bad shocks. When I get about 3 folks in the car and hit a big dip you can hear slight rubbing, but nothing too harsh.
