sad-depressing-gloomy-miserable-heartbreaking NEWS about my max

I have three fault codes my car will not pass inspection with the check engine light on.

1.P0325: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sens

2.P0505: Idle Control System Malfunt

3.P0600: Serial Communication Link Malfunct

Well for the 1st problem i was told to check the cables or replace the knock sensor.

2nd fault code i was told to clean the trottle body with some carburetor.

3rd well no one could give me a straight answer. All i was told was to check the ground cables. I don't know where to start checking the cables all i see for ground cabeling is at the battery.

Is this how i should approach these problems? Any tips from anyone would help alot. o yea i have a 96 auto max

This web site's shows you where the grounding cable for the knock sensor is, as well as showing you how to replace it. It is a great web site for the home mechanic.

naw they check your computer, even if your light is on or off. The law changed in Texas requiring all inspection stations to make mandatory checks on the ECM

ohhhhhhhh the 0504 code is a pain cause thats "A/T signal to ECU" i had that signal since the past month and i finally got it fixed at the dealer...you are probably also getting a 0104 (vehicle speed sensor)? thats more the likely your speedo head. cost me $450 at the dealer...the part and calibration itself is around 270 bucks!
Good luck!

well i just did the self diagnostic and got only two fault codes. 0304 (knock sensor) and 0205 (idel control valve). Not four fault codes like i was getting at the mechanic shop. They cleared the codes and i guess that fixed the other two up.

well for the 0205 i just cleaned the trottle body and i hope the code won't pop up again.

The much dreaded 0304 knock sensor, well i cleaned the ground cables that go to the knock senor shown here http://www.motorvate.ca/auto/maxima/...m_DSC00108.jpg .

i hope these two things will help me get past inspeciton, AT LEAST, since i did already pay 40 bucks and the failed my ***. At least they give u 15 days to fix everything up and come back for free. Im going to go drive around and cross my fingers that the engine light will not come up again.

ps: has anyone else writen a really good responce and then the server tell u it has an error, and you have to write it all over again?
